Abdullah bin Mula says that one day I was walking in "Ahwaz" when I saw a man ahead of me riding a mule and saying, "O Allah! My time has passed from this Ummah, so include me among them." I said, "Please include me in your supplication as well." He said, "If my companion also wishes, then (may he be included)." Then he said that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best of my Ummah are those of my era, then those who come after them (I do not remember whether he mentioned the third time or not), then there will come people among whom obesity will prevail, and they will be ready to give testimony without being asked."

It is narrated from Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he passed by a gathering where people were talking about Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He stood by them and said: In the beginning, there was a burden in my heart regarding Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). The same was the case with Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). Once, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me with a detachment whose commander was Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). There we captured some prisoners. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) kept a slave girl for himself from the khums. Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Wait. Then, when we presented ourselves before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I began to narrate the incident and said that Ali has taken a slave girl from the khums. At that time, I had my head lowered. Suddenly, when I raised my head, I saw that the blessed face of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was changing. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever loves me should also love Ali.

It is narrated from Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed someone as the commander of a detachment or an army and sent him off, he would especially advise him to fear Allah regarding himself and would emphasize treating the Muslims who were with him in the best manner. Then he would say: Fight in the way of Allah in the name of Allah, fight those who disbelieve in Allah. When you meet your enemy, invite them to accept one of three things. Whichever of these they accept, accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. First, invite them to Islam. If they accept, then accept it from them. Then invite them to migrate from their land to the abode of the emigrants, and inform them that if they do so, they will have the same rights and duties as the emigrants. If they refuse and prefer to remain in their own land, then inform them that they will be considered like the Bedouin Muslims; Allah’s commands will apply to them as they apply to all Muslims, but they will not have any share in the spoils of war unless they fight alongside the Muslims. If they refuse this, then invite them to pay the jizya. If they accept, then accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. But if they refuse even this, then seek Allah’s help and fight them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that we laid siege to Khaybar. Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) took the flag, but he returned without conquering the specific and important fort. The next day, he again took the flag and set out, but even today the fort could not be conquered, and on that day, the people faced much hardship and difficulty. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Tomorrow I will give this flag to a person whom Allah and His Messenger love, and he loves Allah and His Messenger, and he will not return without achieving victory." So, all night we remained happy at the thought that tomorrow this fort would also be conquered. When morning came, after the Fajr prayer, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and called for the flag. The people were sitting in their rows. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who was suffering from an eye ailment. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) applied his saliva to his eyes and handed the flag over to him, and through his hands, the fort was conquered, although I too was among those who desired it. When Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) confronted the people of Khaybar, Marhab came before him reciting boastful verses: "All of Khaybar knows that I am Marhab, armed, brave, and experienced; sometimes I fight with a spear and sometimes with a sword, when lions come roaring before me." Then Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) faced him, and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) struck such a blow on his skull that his sword passed through his jaw, and the army heard the sound of Hazrat Ali's (may Allah be pleased with him) strike. Eventually, victory was granted to them.
