Abu Wa'il Shaqiq bin Salamah narrates: I and Masruq went to Sabi bin Ma'bad to discuss this hadith with him, so Sabi said: I was a Christian man, I accepted Islam, and I set out with the intention of performing Hajj. When I reached Qadisiyyah, I entered into the state of Ihram (or recited the Talbiyah) for both Hajj and Umrah together. Salman bin Rabi'ah and Zaid bin Suhan heard me, so they said: This man is more misguided than his household camel. Because of their words, it was as if the weight of a mountain had come upon me. When I met Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), I informed him about this, so Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) turned towards those two men and reproached them, then he turned towards me and said: You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). You have been guided to the Sunnah of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sufyan says: By this is meant that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj and Umrah together with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved of it. It does not mean that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself did so.

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying, he said: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saying, at that time he was in the valley of ‘Aqiq:“Last night, a messenger from my Lord came to me and said: Perform prayer in this blessed valley and say: ‘Umrah is included in Hajj’ (that is, recite the talbiyah for ‘Umrah along with Hajj).”

Ibn Sa'di narrates: He came from "Syria" to the service of Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: I have come to know that you have been performing some official duties, and when you were given a salary, you did not accept it? I replied: Yes, I have horses. (The narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) "I have slaves and I am in good condition." So I wish that my salary be given as charity for the Muslims. Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not do so, because I once had the same intention as you have now. Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would give me something, I would request him to give it to someone who needed it more than I did. Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave me wealth, so I said: Please give it to someone who needs it more than I do. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Umar! Whatever wealth Allah gives you without you asking for it and without you showing interest in it, take it, and increase your wealth with it, give it in charity, and do not pursue the wealth that is not given to you in this way."

Malik bin Aws narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: The lands of Banu Nadir are those which Allah Almighty granted to His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as "fay’" (spoils without battle). The Muslims had not made their horses run for them, nor had they mounted rides for them; these were exclusively for the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would take from their income the yearly expenses for his family, and whatever remained, he would use for horses and weapons, that is, for preparation in the way of Allah. Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sufyan has narrated these words in this narration: "The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would set aside the yearly expenses from it."

Abu Ajfa Salmi narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: Beware! Do not set high dowries for women, because if this was a means of honor in this world or a means of piety in the sight of Allah Almighty, then the person most deserving of it among you would have been the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). To my knowledge, whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married any of his wives, or married off any of his daughters, the dowry of none of them exceeded "twelve uqiyah," but today one of you pays a high dowry to his wife, to the extent that enmity is created in his heart for that woman and he says: Because of you, I had to face hardship. The narrator says: I was a young man and did not understand what was meant by "‘alaq al-qirbah." Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: Another thing is that you people say about someone killed in battle that so-and-so died a martyr's death, or so-and-so died a martyr's death, whereas it is possible that he had loaded his riding animal with goods, or he was going for trade carrying gold and silver. Do not say this, rather say what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is killed in the way of Allah will enter Paradise." Sufyan says: The narrator named Ayyub always expressed doubt in the wording of this narration in this way. The narrator named Sufyan says: If Hammad bin Zayd has also narrated this hadith in these words, then it is correct, otherwise this narration is not preserved.

Ubaydullah bin Abu Yazid narrates: My father told me that once Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a message to an elder from Banu Zuhrah and called him; he used to live in our neighborhood and had witnessed the era of ignorance. I went with that elder to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was present in the Hatim at that time. Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him about (illegitimate children) born in the era of ignorance. The elder replied: As far as the sperm is concerned, it belonged to such-and-such person, and as for the birth, it happened on the bed of such-and-such person. So Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You have spoken the truth, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has given the decision in favor of the bed (i.e., the child belongs to the owner of the bed). When that elderly person turned back, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) called him and asked: Tell me about the construction of the Ka'bah? He replied: The Quraysh wanted to earn virtue by constructing the Ka'bah, but they were unable to complete it; their (resources) became scarce, so they left out a part of the Hatim area. So Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You have spoken the truth.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying on the pulpit: Indeed, Allah Almighty sent Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth and revealed the Book to him, and among what was revealed to him was the verse regarding "rajm" (stoning). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carried out stoning, and after him, we also carried out stoning. Sufyan says: I heard this narration as a lengthy narration from Zuhri, at that time I memorized some parts of it, but this part was included in it, which I did not memorize that day.

Sufyan says: We went to the house of Ibn Jawaz to attend to Zuhri, so he said: If you wish, I will narrate to you twenty hadiths, and if you wish, I will narrate to you the hadith regarding "Saqiqah." (Sufyan says) I was the youngest among those present, so I wished that he would not narrate a lengthy hadith, but the attendees said: Please narrate to us the hadith regarding "Saqiqah." So he narrated, on the authority of Ubaydullah bin Abdullah, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), from which I memorized some parts, and the rest of the narration was later narrated to me by Muammar.
