Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: What a day Thursday was! Then he began to weep, until his tears fell upon the ground. He was asked: O Abu Abbas! What happened on Thursday? So he replied: On Thursday, the pain of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) increased. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Bring me something so that I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray.”(Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, says) Then there was a disagreement among those present, although such disagreement in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not appropriate. Someone said: What is the matter with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? Is what he says unclear? Ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again, so he said:“Leave me as I am. The state I am in is better than what you are calling me to.”Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised them regarding three things. He said:“Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and honor the delegations as I used to honor them.”Sufyan says: The narrator named Sulaiman mentioned this, but I do not know whether the narrator named Saeed mentioned the third thing and I forgot it, or he did not mention the third thing at all.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Qur'an was being revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he used to move his tongue along with it in order to memorize it. Allah Almighty then revealed this verse: «لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ» "Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it. Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation."

Saeed bin Jubair narrates: (In this narration, the narrator did not mention Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both) When the Noble Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, he would recite it quickly in order to memorize it. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: «لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ * إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ» “Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it; surely, upon Us is its collection and its recitation.”Saeed bin Jubair narrates: The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, did not know when a surah was completed until this verse was revealed to him «بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ» .

Sufyan says: Ata bin Saib was once conversing with us, and I heard him mentioning a battle in which he had participated. Then he took a deep breath and began to weep, saying: So-and-so was also there, so-and-so was also there, so-and-so was also there, and Maqsim was also there. Then Saeed bin Jubair said: Has each of you heard that statement which has been said about food? So Maqsim said: O Abu Abdullah! Please tell the attendees that statement. So Saeed bin Jubair said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrating: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Indeed, blessing descends in the middle of the food, so eat from its edges and do not eat from its middle.”

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: "The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever makes an image will be punished and will be made responsible to put a soul into it, but he will not be able to do so. And whoever narrates a false dream will be punished and will be made responsible to tie a knot between two grains of barley, but he will not be able to tie it. And whoever secretly listens to the conversation of some people who dislike that, then on the Day of Resurrection, molten lead will be poured into his ears." Sufyan says: The word «آنُكُ» used in the narration refers to lead.

Yazid bin Hurmaz narrates: Najdah wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked him about the issue of a woman and a slave who participate in a conquest—do they receive a share? And he inquired about killing children during war, and about the orphan: when does the title of orphan end for him? And he asked about the“Dhu al-Qurba”: who are meant by this term? So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O Yazid, you write. If I did not fear that he would fall into further foolishness, I would have written to him myself. You write this: You have written to me and asked: who are meant by“Dhu al-Qurba”? We believe that it refers to us, but our people do not accept this from us. You have asked me about such a woman and a slave who participate in a conquest—will they receive anything? They will not receive any share, but something may be given to them as a gift. You have asked me about the orphan: when does the title of orphan end for him? The title of orphan does not end for him until he reaches puberty and signs of understanding appear in him. You have asked me about killing children during war: the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not kill those children, and you also cannot kill them, except in the case where you have the same knowledge about those children as Sayyiduna Khidr (peace be upon him), the companion of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), had about the boy whom he killed.

Ikrimah narrates: When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was informed that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had burned some apostates, that is, some heretics, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: If I were to kill them, it would be based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever changes his religion, kill him." But I would not burn them, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not appropriate for anyone to punish with the punishment of Allah, the Exalted." Sufyan says: Ammar Dahni was present in that gathering, that is, in the gathering of Amr bin Dinar, and Ayyub was narrating this hadith, so Ammar said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not burn the people; Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had pits dug for them and had smoke made over them, until they were killed in this way. So Amr bin Dinar said: Have you not heard the poem of their killer: "Desires may throw me wherever they wish, as long as they do not throw me into those two pits, near which wood and fire were placed; there, death was immediate, not deferred."
