Ata reported that Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came on the morning of the 4th of Dhul-Hijjah, and when we were also present, he ordered us to come out of the state of ihram. And he said: "Come out of ihram and go to your wives." Ata reported that Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not make this obligatory upon them, but only permitted it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) learned that "among us it is being discussed that only five days remain to reach Arafah, and yet the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has ordered us to go to our women. Should we go to Arafat in such a state that madhi or semen is dripping from our private parts?" Ata said that Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) gestured with his hand as if madhi was dripping in this way. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and said: "Do you know that I am the most God-fearing among you, the most truthful among you, and the most righteous among you? If I did not have the hady (sacrificial animal) with me, I would also come out of ihram. So you too come out of ihram. If I had known beforehand what I came to know later, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me." Thus, we came out of ihram, and we heard and obeyed the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) (when he came from Yemen to Makkah) that he should remain in his state of Ihram. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came from his governorship (Yemen), the Prophet asked him, "Ali, how did you enter into Ihram?" He replied, "In the same way as you have entered into Ihram." The Prophet said, "Then send a sacrificial animal and act according to the way you have entered into Ihram." (Sayyiduna Jabir said) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) brought sacrificial animals for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his companions assumed Ihram for Hajj, and no one had a sacrificial animal with him except the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Sayyiduna Talha (may Allah be pleased with him). During those days, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived from Yemen and he also had a sacrificial animal with him. He said that the Ihram I have assumed is the same as that of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had permitted his companions (upon reaching Makkah) to change their Hajj into Umrah, perform Tawaf of the House (and Sa’i between Safa and Marwah), cut their hair, and come out of Ihram, but those who had a sacrificial animal with them should not do so. Upon this, the people said,“Shall we go to Mina for Hajj in such a state that semen is dripping from us?”This statement reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said,“If I had known what I know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me, and if I had not brought the sacrificial animal, I would have come out of Ihram (after performing the acts of Umrah).”Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) became menstruating during this Hajj, so although she performed all the rites, she did not perform Tawaf of the House. Then when she became pure and performed Tawaf, she said,“O Messenger of Allah, all the people are returning after performing both Hajj and Umrah, but I have only performed Hajj.”Upon this, he said to Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr to take her to Tan’eem and let her perform Umrah. This Umrah was performed in the month of Dhul-Hijjah after Hajj. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah, Malik bin Ja’sham came to him and asked,“O Messenger of Allah, is this (coming out of Ihram between Umrah and Hajj) only for you?”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied,“No, rather it is forever.”

Hadith Number: 764
Hazrat Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that, except for the Hums, all other people used to perform Tawaf naked during the days of ignorance. Hums referred to the Quraysh and their descendants. They used to give clothes (for the sake of Allah) to the people—the men of Quraysh would give clothes to other men so that they could wear them and perform Tawaf, and the women of Quraysh would give clothes to other women so that they could wear them and perform Tawaf. Those whom the Quraysh did not give clothes would perform Tawaf of the House of Allah naked. All other people would return from Arafat, but the Quraysh would return from Muzdalifah (which was within the Haram). Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that this verse was revealed about the Quraysh: "Then you (Quraysh) should return from where the other people return," meaning from Arafat (Surah Al-Baqarah 199). She narrated that the Quraysh used to return from Muzdalifah, so they were commanded to return from Arafat.

Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I lost a camel of mine, so I went to Arafat to search for it. It was the day of Arafat. I saw that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was standing in the plain of Arafat. The words escaped my lips,“By Allah! These are the Quraysh, so why are they here?”

Abrogation of Exiting Ihram; Command to Complete Hajj
Hadith Number: 766
Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when I came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he was at Batha (which is a place near Makkah). He asked: "Have you made the intention for Hajj?" I said: "Yes." He inquired: "With what have you tied your Ihram?" I said: "I have tied the Ihram in the manner of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "You have done well, now go." So (upon reaching Makkah) I performed the Tawaf of the House of Allah and the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah. Then I went to a woman from Banu Qais and she removed lice from my head. After that, I proclaimed the Talbiyah for Hajj. After that, I continued to give the same fatwa until the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Then when I mentioned this to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "We should also act upon the Book of Allah, and in it is the command to complete (the rites). Then we should also act upon the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not become halal before offering the sacrifice."

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that (during Hajj) the command of Tamattu‘ was revealed in the Qur'an, and we performed Hajj with Tamattu‘ along with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then after that, neither the Qur'an forbade it nor did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbid it until he passed away. (Therefore, Tamattu‘ is still permissible.) It is only that a certain person has said whatever he wished based on his own opinion.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah performed Tamattu’ in the Farewell Pilgrimage, that is, he performed ‘Umrah and then Hajj, and he offered a sacrifice. He took the sacrificial animal with him from Dhu’l-Hulayfah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) first entered into Ihram for ‘Umrah, then proclaimed Talbiyah for Hajj. The people also performed Tamattu’ with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that is, they performed ‘Umrah and then Hajj. However, many people took the sacrificial animal with them, and many did not. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Makkah, he said to the people: Whoever has brought the sacrificial animal with him, nothing that he has made unlawful upon himself (due to Ihram) becomes lawful for him until his Hajj is completed. But those who have not brought the sacrificial animal, they should perform Tawaf of the House (Ka‘bah), and after performing Sa‘i between Safa and Marwah, they should have their hair cut and become lawful (i.e., come out of Ihram). Then, for Hajj (on the eighth of Dhu’l-Hijjah), they should enter into Ihram again. If such a person does not find a sacrificial animal, he should fast three days during the days of Hajj and seven days after returning home. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Makkah, the first thing he did was perform Tawaf, then he kissed the Black Stone. In three circuits he performed Raml (brisk walking), and in the remaining four, he walked at a normal pace. After completing the Tawaf of the House, he prayed two rak‘ahs at the Station of Ibrahim. After finishing the prayer, he went towards the hill of Safa and completed the Sa‘i between Safa and Marwah in seven circuits. The things that he had made unlawful upon himself due to Ihram did not become lawful for him until he had completed the Hajj and slaughtered the sacrificial animal on the Day of Sacrifice (the tenth of Dhu’l-Hijjah). Then he returned (to Makkah), and when he performed the Tawaf al-Ifadah of the House, everything that had been unlawful due to Ihram became lawful for him. Those who had brought the Hady (sacrificial animal) with them did as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had done.

The purified wife of the Messenger of Allah, Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter that other people have become halal after performing Umrah, but you have not become halal?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I have applied talbeed (a sticky substance used to set the hair) to my head and have brought the sacrificial animal with me, so I cannot come out of ihram before offering the sacrifice."
