Hadith Number: 1550
Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I entered Paradise, or (he said): I went to Paradise, and there I saw a palace. I asked, "Whose palace is this?" The angels replied, "It belongs to Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)." I wanted to enter it, but I refrained because I knew of your sense of honor (ghirah). Upon this, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, O Prophet of Allah! Would I feel any sense of honor (ghirah) towards you?"

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he said: I saw Paradise in a dream. I saw a woman there performing ablution at the edge of a palace. I asked, "Whose palace is this?" The angels replied, "This is the palace of Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)." I remembered his sense of honor and immediately turned back. Upon hearing this, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Would I feel a sense of honor even with you?"

Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, some Qurayshi women, the pure wives, were sitting with him, talking to him and asking him (for an increase in expenses), raising their voices. But as soon as Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission, those women quickly went behind the curtain. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was smiling. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May Allah always keep you smiling, O Messenger of Allah! He (the Prophet) said: I was amazed at these women who were just with me, but when they heard your voice, they quickly ran behind the curtain. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: But O Messenger of Allah! You were more deserving that they should fear you. Then he said (to the wives): O enemies of your own souls! You fear me but do not fear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The wives replied: Yes, that is the case, because you are much harsher in temperament than the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul, (O Umar!) if even Satan meets you on a path, he immediately leaves that path and takes another.

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): When Abdullah bin Ubayy (the hypocrite) died, his son Abdullah bin Abdullah (who was a devout Muslim) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and requested that he (peace be upon him) give his shirt for his father’s shroud. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted his shirt. Then he requested that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also lead the funeral prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) proceeded to lead the funeral prayer. At that moment, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) held onto the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) garment and said: O Messenger of Allah! Are you going to lead his funeral prayer, even though Allah Almighty has forbidden you from doing so? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Allah Almighty has given me a choice, saying:“Whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them. Even if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will never forgive them.”So I will ask forgiveness for him more than seventy times, perhaps Allah will forgive him. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: But he was a hypocrite. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that in the end, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led his funeral prayer. After that, Allah Almighty revealed this command:“And never (O Muhammad) pray for any of them who dies, nor stand at his grave.”

Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a garden of Madinah (Bir Aris) when a person came and asked for the door to be opened. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Open the door for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise." I opened the door and it was Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). I conveyed to him the glad tidings of Paradise as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said, and he praised Allah for it. Then another person came and asked for the door to be opened. On this occasion too, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Open the door for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise." I opened the door and it was Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). When I informed him of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) words, he also praised and glorified Allah. Then a third person came and asked for the door to be opened. For him as well, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Open the door for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise after the trials and tribulations with which he will be faced (in this world)." He was Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). When I informed him of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) words, after praising and glorifying Allah, he said, "Allah alone is the Helper."

Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) performed ablution one day in his house and set out with the intention that today he would not leave the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for the whole day. He narrated that then he presented himself at the Prophet’s Mosque and inquired about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The people present there informed him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already left and had gone in a certain direction. So, I kept asking about you and followed behind you, and finally I saw that you were entering the well of Aris (near Quba). I sat at the door, and its door was made of palm branches. When you (peace and blessings be upon him) had relieved yourself, you also performed ablution, so I came to you. I saw that you were sitting on the edge of the well of Aris (the well of that garden), your shins uncovered, and your feet dangling in the well. I greeted you and then returned to sit at the garden’s door. I thought that today I would act as the doorkeeper of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and wanted to open the door, so I asked,“Who is it?”He said,“Abu Bakr!”I said,“Wait a moment.”Then I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“Abu Bakr is at the door and seeks permission to enter.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise.”I came to the door and said to Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him),“Please enter, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you glad tidings of Paradise.”Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) entered and sat on the edge of the well to the right of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he also dangled his feet in the well, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had done, and uncovered his shins as well. Then I returned and sat in my place. When I left, I had left my brother performing ablution. He was to come with me. I thought to myself,“If only Allah would inform so-and-so,”meaning his brother,“and bring him here.”Meanwhile, someone knocked at the door. I asked,“Who is it?”He said,“Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).”I said,“Wait a moment.”So I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and after greeting, I said,“Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) is at the door and seeks permission to enter.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise.”I returned and said,“Please enter, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you glad tidings of Paradise.”He also entered and sat on the edge of the well to the left of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and dangled his feet in the well. I again came and sat at the door, thinking,“If only Allah wished good for so-and-so (the brother of Abu Musa) and brought him here.”Meanwhile, another person came and knocked at the door. I asked,“Who is it?”He replied,“Uthman ibn Affan.”I said,“Wait a moment.”Then I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise for a calamity that will befall him.”I came to the door and said to him,“Please enter. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you glad tidings of Paradise for a calamity that will befall you.”When he entered, he saw that there was no space on the platform, so he sat on the other side facing the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Hazrat Sa'id bin Musayyib (the narrator from Hazrat Abu Musa) said,“From this, I have interpreted their graves.”

Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out for the Battle of Tabuk, he appointed Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy in Madinah. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“Are you leaving me among children and women?”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“Are you not pleased that you are to me as Harun (Aaron) was to Musa (Moses)? But the difference is that there will be no prophet after me.”

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the day of the battle of Khaybar that he would give the Islamic flag into the hand of such a person through whom Allah would grant victory. Now everyone was waiting to see who would receive the flag. When morning came, all the prominent people hoped that perhaps they would be given the flag, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired,“Where is Ali?”It was submitted that he was suffering from an eye ailment. Eventually, at your (peace and blessings be upon him) command, he was called. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) applied his blessed saliva to Ali’s eyes, and immediately he was cured, as if there had never been any pain. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“We will fight them (the Jews) until they become like us (Muslims).”But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Wait, first go down into their field and invite them to Islam, and inform them of what is obligatory upon them. (Then if they do not accept, fight them.) By Allah! If even one person is guided through you, it is better for you than red camels.”

Narrated Salamah bin Al-Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him): On the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not come along with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He was suffering from pain in his eyes. Then he said,“Shall I not participate in Jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?”So he set out and joined the Prophet. On the evening of that night, the morning of which Khaybar was conquered, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I will give the Islamic flag to a person, or (he said) tomorrow the Islamic flag will be in the hand of a person whom Allah and His Messenger love.”Or he said:“Who loves Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and Allah will grant victory at his hands.”Then Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also came, although we had no hope of his coming (because he was suffering from eye inflammation). The people said,“Here is Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also,”and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the flag, and Allah granted victory at his hands.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Where is your cousin?”She replied,“There was something unpleasant between me and him, and he became upset with me and went out somewhere, and he has not even taken a nap here.”After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a person,“Go and look for Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), where is he?”He came and informed that he was sleeping in the mosque. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came there. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was lying down, his cloak had slipped from his side, and there was dust on his body. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was wiping the dust from his body and saying,“Get up, Abu Turab, get up.”
