Narrations Regarding the Dislike of Benefiting Personally from War Booty

٣٤٧٥١ - حدثنا ابو بكر بن عياش عن عاصم عن ابي وائل قال: غزونا مع سلمان بن ربيعة بلنجر فحرج علينا ان نحمل على دواب الغنيمة، ورخص لنا في الغربال والمنخل والحبل (١).

Hazrat Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that we went to fight in jihad at the place of Lanjar with Hazrat Salman bin Rabee'ah (may Allah have mercy on him). He (may Allah have mercy on him) forbade us from riding on the animals of the spoils of war, declaring it unlawful and prohibited. And he permitted us to use sieves, sifters, and ropes.

On Preferred and Disliked Horses

٣٤٧٥٢ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا سفيان عن (سلم) (١) بن عبد الرحمن النخعي عن ابي زرعة بن عمرو (بن) (٢) جرير عن ابي هريرة قال: كان رسول الله ﷺ يكره الشكال من الخيل (٣).

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked a horse that had three white legs and one leg without white, or the opposite.

٣٤٧٥٣ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا ابو (الضريس) (١) عقبة بن عمار العبسي عن مسعود بن (حراش) (٢) اخي ربعي ان عمر بن الخطاب سال العبسيين: اي الخيل وجدتموه اصبر في حربكم؟ قالوا: الكميت (٣) (٤).

Hazrat Masood bin Harash, may Allah have mercy on him, who is the brother of Hazrat Rubee’ bin Harash, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, asked the people of the tribe of Abs:“Which horse do you find to be the most courageous in your battles?”They replied:“The horse that is red and black in color, or a bay-colored horse.”

٣٤٧٥٤ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا طلحة عن عطاء قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"خير الخيل (الحو) (١)" (٢).

(١) الحو: كميت يعلوه سواد، وفي [ط]: (الحر).
(٢) مرسل ضعيف؛ عطاء تابعي، وطلحة ضعيف.
Hazrat Ata narrates that Hazrat Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The best horse is the bay-colored one in which the red color is predominant.

٣٤٧٥٥ - حدثنا الفضل بن دكين قال: ثنا موسى بن علي قال: سمعت ابي يحدث ان رجلا اتى رسول الله ﷺ، فقال: إني اريد إن اقيد فرسا او ابتاع فرسا، قال: فقال:"فعليك به (اقرح) (١) (ارثم) (٢) كميتا او ادهم محجلا طلق (اليمنى) (٣)" (٤).

Hazrat Musa bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him, may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I wish to put fetters on the feet of a horse, or he said: I want to buy a horse. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In this matter, it is incumbent upon you to choose a horse whose face has whiteness, and whose nose and upper lip are also white, and which is of a bay color, or such a horse that is black and white in color and whose right side is completely clear.

Narrations Reported Regarding Cutting the Tails of Horses

٣٤٧٥٦ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا ثور الشامي عن (الوضين) (١) بن عطاء قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ:"لا تحذفوا اذناب الخيل فإنها مذابها ولا تقصوا اعرافها فإنها دفاؤها" (٢).

Hazrat Wazin bin Ata (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not trim the tails of horses, for indeed they are a means to drive away flies, and do not cut the hair of their necks, for it provides them with warmth.

٣٤٧٥٧ - حدثنا شريك عن إبراهيم بن مهاجر عن إبراهيم ان عمر نهى عن خصاء الخيل، قال: واراه قال: وعن حذف اذنابها (١).

(١) منقطع؛ إبراهيم لم يدرك عمر.
Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade the castration of horses; he (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In my opinion, he also forbade the cutting of their tails.

٣٤٧٥٨ - حدثنا حاتم بن وردان عن برد عن مكحول انه كان يكره ان تهلب الخيل.
Hazrat Burd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Makhool (may Allah have mercy on him) considered it disliked to pluck the hair of a horse.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not trim the tail of the horse.

Those Who Considered Castrating Horses and Animals Disliked

٣٤٧٦٠ - حدثنا وكيع قال: ثنا عبد الله بن نافع عن ابيه عن ابن عمر قال: نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن خصاء الخيل والبهائم (١).
ريفرينس و تحكيم الحدیث:
(١) ضعيف؛ لضعف عبد اللَّه بن نافع، أخرجه أحمد (٤٧٦٩)، وابن عدي ٣/ ٣٢٠، والطحاوي ٤/ ٣١٧، والبيهقي ١٠/ ٢٤، وورد موقوفًا أخرجه مالك ٢/ ٩٤٨، وعبد الرزاق (٨٤٤٠).
Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the castration of horses and other animals. And Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: There is an increase of creation in them.
