Al-Fath al-Rabbani
بَابُ صِيَامِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِكْثَارِهِ الصَّوْمَ فِي شَعْبَانَ وَفَضْلِ الصِّيَامِ
Chapter: The Prophet’s Fasting and His Frequent Fasting in Sha‘ban, and the Virtue of Fasting in It
Hadith Number: 3936
وعنها رضي الله عنها قالت: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم يصوم حتى نقول ما يريد ان يفطر، ويفطر حتى نقول ما يريد ان يصوم، وكان يقرا كل ليلة بني إسرائيل والزمر
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes fast so frequently that we would say he will not stop fasting now, but then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave fasting for such a long period that we would think he will not fast anymore. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Bani Isra'il and Surah Az-Zumar every night.

Hadith Number: 3937
عن عبد الله بن ابي قيس انه سمع عائشة رضي الله عنها تقول: كان احب الشهور إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ان يصومه شعبان، ثم يصله برمضان
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) loved to observe voluntary fasts most in the month of Sha'ban; he (peace and blessings be upon him) would fast in this month and join it with the month of Ramadan.

Hadith Number: 3938
عن خالد بن معدان عن عائشة رضي الله عنها سئلت عن صوم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم، قالت: كان يصوم شعبان ويتحرى الإثنين والخميس
Khalid bin Ma'dan says that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about the voluntary fasts of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast in the month of Sha'ban and gave special attention to fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.

Hadith Number: 3939
عن ام سلمة رضي الله عنها ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كان يصوم شعبان ورمضان
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to fast during the months of Sha'ban and Ramadan.

وعنها ايضا رضي الله عنها قالت: ما رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم صام شهرين متتابعين إلا انه كان يصل شعبان برمضان
It is also narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) observe two consecutive months of fasting, except in the case when he (peace and blessings be upon him) would join Sha'ban with Ramadan.

Hadith Number: 3941
عن انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يصوم فلا يفطر حتى نقول: ما في نفس رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ان يفطر العام، ثم يفطر فلا يصوم حتى نقول: ما في نفسه ان يصوم العام، وكان احب الصيام إليه في شعبان
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that sometimes the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would begin to observe voluntary fasts continuously without a break, to the extent that we would say that this year he, peace and blessings be upon him, does not intend to leave any fast. But then he, peace and blessings be upon him, would start leaving off fasting with such continuity that we would say that this year he, peace and blessings be upon him, has not kept any fast. The fasts of the month of Sha'ban were the most beloved to him, peace and blessings be upon him.

Hadith Number: 3942
عن اسامة بن زيد رضي الله عنه قال: قلت: يا رسول الله! لم ارك تصوم من شهر من الشهور ما تصوم من شعبان؟ قال: ((ذلك شهر يغفل الناس عنه، بين رجب ورمضان، وهو شهر يرفع فيه الاعمال إلى رب العالمين، فاحب ان يرفع عملي وانا صائم))
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have seen that you fast in the month of Sha'ban more than in any other month?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a month between Rajab and Ramadan that people are heedless of. It is a month in which the deeds of people are raised to the Lord of the worlds, and I wish that my deeds are taken up while I am fasting."

Hadith Number: 3943
عن العلاء بن عبد الرحمن بن يعقوب عن ابيه عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((إذا كان النصف من شعبان، فامسكوا عن الصيام حتى يكون رمضان))
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When half of the month of Sha'ban has passed, then stop fasting until the month of Ramadan arrives.

Hadith Number: 3944
عن مطرف عن عمران بن حصين رضي الله عنه ان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال له او لغيره: ((هل صمت سرار هذا الشهر (وفي لفظ: هل صمت من سرر هذا الشهر شيئا؟)) يعني شعبان، قال: لا، قال: ((فإذا افطرت او افطر الناس، فصم يومين))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him or someone else: Did you fast in the middle of the month of Sha'ban? He replied: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you have finished (the fasts of Ramadan), then at that time keep fasts for two days.

بَابُ صَوْمِ شَهْرِ الصَّبْرِ وَثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ غَيْرِ مُعَيَّنَةٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ
Chapter: Fasting the Month of Patience and Three Unspecified Days from Every Month
Hadith Number: 3945
عن ابي عثمان ان ابا هريرة رضي الله عنه كان في سفر فلما نزلوا ارسلوا إليه، وهو يصلي، فقال: إني صائم، فلما وضعوا الطعام وكادوا ان يفرغوا جاء، فقالوا: هلم فكل فاكل، فنظر القوم إلى الرسول فقال: ما تنظرون؟ فقال: والله! لقد قال: إني صائم، فقال ابو هريرة: صدق، وإن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: ((صوم شهر الصبر، وثلاثة ايام من كل شهر صوم الدهر كله))، فقد صمت ثلاثة ايام من اول الشهر فانا مفطر في تخفيف الله، صائم في تضعيف الله
It is narrated from Abu Uthman that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) was on a journey. When he stopped at a place, people sent him an invitation to eat, while he was praying. He said: I am fasting. The people set the food, and when they were about to finish, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) came there. The people again invited him to eat, and this time he started eating. Seeing this situation, the people began to look with surprise at the first messenger, because he was the one who had conveyed the message of fasting. But he said: What are you looking at? By Allah! He had said that he was fasting. At that time, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He is telling the truth. The matter is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The fasts of the month of Ramadan and then three fasts of every month are equal to the fasts of the whole year.)) Acting upon this hadith, I had already kept three fasts at the beginning of this month, so now I am breaking my fast on the basis of Allah’s concession, while I had kept the fast to attain manifold reward from Allah.
