Hadith Number: 4972
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The night we attacked Hawazin with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), our slogan that day was "Amit" (Kill! Kill!). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) as our leader, and I killed seven people with my own hands that day.

Chapter on the Recommendation of Showing Pride in War, the Prohibition of Wishing to Meet the Enemy, and Being Deceived by the Number of Troops
Hadith Number: 4973
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty likes some forms of jealousy and dislikes some, similarly, He likes some types of pride and dislikes some. The jealousy that He likes is related to suspicion (of immorality), and the jealousy that He dislikes is when there is no suspicion or assumption. Likewise, the pride that Allah Almighty likes is when a servant takes pride in himself for Allah’s sake at the time of fighting, and takes pride in giving charity, and the pride that He dislikes is related to arrogance.

Qais bin Bishr Taghlabi narrates, he says: My father told me, while he was a companion of Sayyiduna Abu Darda, he said: There was a companion in Damascus, he was called Ibn Hanzaliyah, he was a man who preferred solitude and sat with people very little, he was always engaged in prayer, when he finished, he would begin tasbih and takbir, until he reached his family. One day he passed by us while we were sitting with Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Tell us something that will benefit us and not harm you. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a detachment, so when I arrived, a man from that detachment also arrived and sat in the gathering of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said to the man sitting beside him: What do you think, if we encounter the enemy, such-and-such Muslim man attacks and while striking with his spear says: Take this, and I am a Ghafari youth, what do you think about his statement? He said: I think he has wasted his reward. But when a third man heard this, he said: There is no harm in saying such a thing. They began to dispute about this until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard their conversation and said: It is amazing, there is no harm if a man is praised and he is also given reward. I saw that Sayyiduna Abu Darda was pleased with this and he raised his head and began to look at that man and asked: Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes. Then he kept repeating this statement until he repeated it so many times that I thought he would surely lean on his knees.

It is narrated from Abu Hayyan, he says: I heard from an elder in Madinah Munawwarah, he was stating that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Ubaydullah, this was at the time when he wanted to fight the Haruriyyah, that is, the Khawarij. His scribe was my friend. I said to him: Write it for me as well, word for word. He did so. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not wish to fight the enemies, and ask Allah for well-being. But when you encounter them, then be patient, and know that Paradise is under the shade of swords. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wait until the sun had declined, then he would stand towards the enemy and make this supplication: "O Allah! Revealer of the Book, Mover of the clouds, Defeater of the confederates, defeat them and grant us victory over them."

Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray, he would quietly say some words; neither could I understand them nor did he (peace and blessings be upon him) tell us. (One day) he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Did you notice that I say some words? We said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I remembered a prophet to whom many armies from his people were given; he said to his nation with pride: Who is there who will be equal to them? Or who is there who can face them? Or he said something similar. Allah Almighty revealed to him: Choose one of these three matters for your people: We will impose their enemy upon your nation, or hunger, or death. He consulted his people. They said: You are Allah’s prophet, the matter is entrusted to you, so you choose yourself. He began to pray; whenever they became anxious, they would resort to prayer. He prayed as much as Allah Almighty willed, then said: O my Lord, do not impose their enemy upon them, nor hunger; let it be death. Allah Almighty imposed death upon them; in one day, seventy thousand of them died. This was my humming, as you saw; I said:“Allahumma bika uqaatilu, wa bika usaawilu, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.”(O Allah! By Your help I defend, by Your help I attack, and by Your help I fight.)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would launch a raid after the break of dawn. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would listen attentively; if he heard the sound of the adhan, he would stop, otherwise he would attack. One day, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was listening attentively. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the muezzin say: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar," he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are upon the natural disposition (fitrah)." Then, when the muezzin said: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah," he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has been saved from the Fire."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people from the tribe of Banu Jashm, including Ubayis or Ibn Ubayis, came to him, and one of them said to him:“Do you not fight until the turmoil subsides?”He replied:“Perhaps I have fought for this very purpose, that there be no turmoil. Shall I not tell you something that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said? And I think perhaps it will not benefit you, but in any case, remain silent.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“O Banu so-and-so! Fight against Banu so-and-so.”As soon as he said this, the ranks of men were formed, and behind them were their women. Then, when they returned, a man said:“O Messenger of Allah! Seek forgiveness for me, may Allah forgive you as well.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked:“Have you done something new?”He said:“Yes, when the enemy people were being defeated, I found a man between the men and women. He said: ‘I am a Muslim,’ or ‘I have accepted Islam,’ but I killed him. In fact, when he saw the shower of spears, he said this to save himself.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Did you cut open his heart to see (the truth)?”He said:“No, by Allah, I did not do that.”Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not seek forgiveness for that man.
In another narration: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“O Banu so-and-so! You people fight against Banu so-and-so.”One of my relatives also went with them, but when he returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:“O Messenger of Allah! Seek forgiveness from Allah for me, may Allah forgive you.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked:“Have you done something new?”He said:“When the enemies were defeated, I found two men between the men and women. They said that they were Muslims or that they had accepted Islam, but I killed them.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I have been commanded to fight people on the basis of Islam alone. By Allah, I will not seek forgiveness for you.”Later, this man died, and his relatives buried him, but when morning came, the earth had thrown him out. They buried him again and kept a watch over him, but the earth threw him out again. They said to the guards:“Perhaps someone came and took him out while you were sleeping.”So they buried him a third time and kept watch, but the earth threw him out again. When they saw this situation, they left him lying outside.

It is narrated from Humaid bin Hilal, he says: A man gathered me and Bishr bin Asim and related this matter from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The people of one of the expeditions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the water-bearers in the morning. When one of them came out, a man from among the Muslims attacked him. He said in response that he was a Muslim, but the Muslim killed him. When these people returned and informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) of this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to address them, praised and glorified Allah, and then said: "As for what follows, what will be the state of that Muslim who kills a man who is saying that he is a Muslim?" That man said: "Yes, he said this to save himself." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away and extended his right hand. In one narration it is mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards him and said: "Can you recognize evil on his face?" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever kills a Muslim, Allah has denied me concerning him." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this sentence three times.
