It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Afif Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him), who says: I was a merchant, I came for Hajj and met Sayyiduna ‘Abbas bin ‘Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) to buy some trade goods; he was also a merchant. By Allah, I was with him at Mina when a man came out from a nearby tent and looked at the sun. When he thought the sun had declined, he stood up and began to pray. Then a woman came out from the same tent and stood behind that man and began to pray. Then a boy, close to puberty, came out from the same tent and stood with the man to perform the prayer. I said to ‘Abbas: O ‘Abbas! Who is this man? He said: This is Muhammad bin ‘Abdullah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I said: Who is this woman? He said: This is his wife Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. I said: Who is this boy? He said: This is his cousin ‘Ali bin Abi Talib. I said: What is he doing? He said: He is praying and claims that he is a Prophet, but so far, the only ones following him in this matter are his wife and this cousin of his. He believes that he will conquer the treasures of Kisra and Caesar. This ‘Afif was a cousin of Ash’ath bin Qays; later he became Muslim and his Islam became beautiful, and afterwards he used to say: If only Allah had granted me Islam at that time, and I would have been the third person to become Muslim along with Ibn Abi Talib.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, he says: The first seven individuals to openly declare Islam were: the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir, his mother Sayyidah Sumayyah, Sayyiduna Suhaib, Sayyiduna Bilal, and Sayyiduna Miqdad. Allah Almighty granted protection to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, through his uncle Abu Talib, and to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, through his people. The rest of them were seized by the polytheists, who made them wear iron armor and tortured them by standing them in the sun. Every person would comply with their wishes, except for Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him. He considered himself insignificant for the sake of Allah Almighty. Meanwhile, his people also considered him of little importance, so they handed him over to the children, or they would take Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, and make him wander through the valleys of Makkah, but Sayyiduna Bilal would keep saying: Allah is One, Allah is One.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah Salami (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Who is with you on this religion?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A free man and a slave." At that time, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them both) were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Amr bin Abasah: "Return to your people until Allah makes His Messenger strong." عن اسماء بنت ابي بكر رضي الله عنهما قالت سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وهو يقرا وهو يصلي نحو الركن قبل ان يصدع بما يؤمر والمشركون يستمعون {فباي آلاء ربكما تكذبان}
It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting (the Qur'an), and he would pray facing the Black Stone, and he had not yet announced that which he had been commanded to announce, and the polytheists would hear this verse: {فَبِاَیِّ آلائِ رَبِّکُمَا تُکَذِّبَانِ}.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: "And warn your nearest relatives," the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called the Quraysh, gave a general call and also a specific call. In one narration, it is mentioned: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called each family of the Quraysh specifically and said: O assembly of Quraysh! Save yourselves from the Fire. O assembly of Banu Ka'b bin Lu'ayy! Save yourselves from the Fire. O assembly of Banu 'Abd Manaf! Save yourselves from the Fire. O assembly of Banu Hashim! Save yourselves from the Fire. O assembly of Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Fatimah bint Muhammad! Save yourself from the Fire. By Allah! Verily, I do not possess anything from Allah for you, except that you have ties of kinship with me, which I will maintain.

عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال لما انزل الله عز وجل {وانذر عشيرتك الاقربين} قال اتى النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم الصفا فصعد عليه ثم نادى يا صباحاه فاجتمع الناس إليه بين رجل يجيء وبين رجل يبعث رسوله فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ((يا بني عبد المطلب يا بني فهر يا بني لؤي ارايتم لو اخبرتكم ان خيلا بسفح هذا الجبل تريد ان تغير عليكم صدقتموني قالوا نعم قال فإني نذير لكم بين يدي عذاب شديد)) فقال ابو لهب تبا لك سائر اليوم اما دعوتنا إلا لهذا فانزل الله عز وجل {تبت يدا ابي لهب وتب}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, he says: When Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And warn your close relatives," the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to the hill of Safa and, having climbed it, called out: "Ya Sabahah!" So people gathered around him, some came themselves and some sent their messengers. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O Banu Abdul Muttalib! O Banu Fihr! O Banu Lu'ayy! What do you think, if I were to inform you that there is an army at the foot of this mountain intending to launch a sudden attack on you, would you believe me?" They said: "Yes." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then I am a warner to you before a severe punishment." Upon hearing this, Abu Lahab said: "May you perish for the rest of the day! Did you call us together for this purpose?" At this, Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!"

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Banu Abdul Muttalib! Save yourselves from Allah by your own actions. O Safiyyah! (the Prophet’s aunt), O Fatimah bint Muhammad! Save your own souls from Allah. I will not be able to avail you anything before Allah.
