Narrated from Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin ‘Abad Daili (may Allah be pleased with him), who belonged to the era of ignorance, then he became a Muslim, he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my eyes saw him in the market of Dhu’l-Majaz, he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: O people! Say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH, you will be successful. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the streets of this market, while people had crowded around him, I did not see anyone saying anything, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) was not remaining silent, he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying: O people! Say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH, you will be successful. However, there was a man following behind him (peace and blessings be upon him), he was squint-eyed, had a handsome face, and had two braids, he was saying: This is an irreligious and lying person. I asked: Who is this man? People said: This is Muhammad bin Abdullah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he is proclaiming prophethood. I asked: Who is the one denying him? They said: This is his uncle Abu Lahab. I asked: So were you young in those days? He said: No, by Allah! Indeed, I was sensible on that day.

(Second chain) Sayyiduna Rabi’ah bin ‘Abad Daili (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was a young man and while walking with my father, I was watching the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to the tribes, and behind him was a handsome man with a squint in his eye, whose hair hung down to his shoulders. The Messenger of Allah would stop at each tribe and say:“O Banu so-and-so! I am Allah’s Messenger to you. I command you to worship Allah, not to associate anything with Him, and to affirm me, so that I may convey to you the message with which Allah has sent me.”When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his words, the man behind him would begin to say:“O Banu so-and-so! This man intends that you abandon Lat and ‘Uzza and your allies from Banu Malik bin Uqays, and adopt this innovation and misguidance that he has brought. So do not listen to him and do not follow him.”I asked my father:“Who is this man?”He said:“This is the uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Lahab.”

(Third chain) Sayyiduna Rabi’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), before migrating to Madinah, going to the people at Mina in their dwellings and saying: O people! … … . Then the previous narration was mentioned.

(Fourth Chain) Sayyiduna Rabi’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw Abu Lahab in ‘Ukaz while he was following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and saying:“O people! This man has gone astray himself and wants to lead you astray from the gods of your forefathers.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would run ahead of him, but he would catch up behind him. We boys would also walk along with him. It is as if I am still looking at Abu Lahab—he was squint-eyed, had two braids, was the whitest in complexion among the people, and the most handsome.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Abu Jahl said: If I see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying by the Ka'bah, I will trample his neck. Upon this statement of his, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he had done so, the angels would have seized him before the people. If the Jews had wished for death, they would surely have died and seen their abode in Hell. And if those who challenged the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to a mutual curse (mubahala) had come out, they would have returned in such a state that neither their wealth nor their families would have remained.

عن ابي حازم عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال قال ابو جهل هل يعفر محمد وجهه بين اظهركم قال فقيل نعم قال واللات والعزى يمينا يحلف بها لئن رايته يفعل ذلك لاطان على رقبته او لاعفرن وجهه في التراب قال فاتى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وهو يصلي زعم ليطا على رقبته قال فما فجاهم منه إلا وهو ينكص على عقبيه ويتقي بيديه قال قالوا له ما لك قال إن بيني وبينه لخندقا من نار وهولا واجنحة قال فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ((لو دنا مني لخطفته الملائكة عضوا عضوا)) قال فانزل لا ادري في حديث ابي هريرة او شيء بلغه {إن الإنسان ليطغى ان رآه استغنى ارايت الذي ينهى عبدا إذا صلى ارايت إن كان على الهدى او امر بالتقوى ارايت إن كذب وتولى} يعني ابا جهل {الم يعلم بان الله يرى كلا لئن لم ينته لنسفعا بالناصية ناصية كاذبة خاطئة فليدع ناديه} قال يدعو قومه {سندع الزبانية} قال يعني الملائكة {كلا لا تطعه واسجد واقترب}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Jahl said: "Does Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrate among you?" Someone said: "Yes." He said: "By Lat and Uzza! If I see him doing so, I will trample his neck or smear his face with dust." So, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to pray, and Abu Jahl also set out to trample his neck. But suddenly, he began to retreat on his heels and was defending himself with his hands. People asked him: "What happened to you?" He said: "Between me and him (peace and blessings be upon him) there was a trench of fire, terror, and wings." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he had come near me, the angels would have snatched away each of his limbs." Then Allah Almighty revealed these verses: "Indeed, man transgresses. Have you seen the one who forbids a servant when he prays? Tell me, if he is upon guidance or enjoins righteousness? Tell me, if he denies and turns away?" This refers to Abu Jahl. The command of Allah Almighty is: "Does he not know that Allah sees? No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock—a lying, sinful forelock. Then let him call his council. We will call the guards of Hell." That is, the angels. "No! Do not obey him, but prostrate and draw near." The narrator says: "I do not know whether the mention of these verses was in the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), or if it was known from another chain."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the state of prostration, while the Qurayshi people were sitting around him. Meanwhile, ‘Uqbah bin Abi Mu‘ayt came with the uterus of a slaughtered she-camel and threw it on the back of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not raise his head. In the meantime, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) arrived and removed it from the Prophet’s back, and invoked a curse upon those who had done this. Thereupon, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed against them in these words:“O Allah! Seize the chiefs of the Quraysh: Abu Jahl, ‘Utbah bin Rabi‘ah, Shaybah bin Rabi‘ah, ‘Uqbah bin Abi Mu‘ayt, and Umayyah bin Khalaf (or Ubayy bin Khalaf).”Then I saw these people killed on the day of Badr and thrown into the well, except for Umayyah or Ubayy, whose joints were dislocated, so he was not thrown into the well.

In the hadith, the word“Salajzur”is used here.“Nasla”means the membrane (uterus) in which the child lies and which comes out of the female’s womb after the birth of the child.“Jazur”is used for both male and female, rather it applies to every slaughtered animal. In one narration of Bukhari (520), these words are mentioned:“its dung, blood, and uterus,”meaning its dung, blood, and uterus were brought. This shows that the entrails were also brought and thrown upon the Prophet. (Abdullah Rafiq)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards the House of Allah and invoked a curse upon seven individuals of the Quraysh. Among them were Abu Jahl, Umayyah bin Khalaf, Shaybah bin Rabi’ah, and ‘Uqbah bin Abi Mu’it. Indeed, I saw all of those individuals thrown into the well of Badr. Since it was an extremely hot day, the sun also caused some change in their appearance.
