Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We reached the place of Hudaybiyyah and there was a well there, whose water was about to finish. Our number was fourteen hundred. A bucket of water was drawn from the well. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took some water from it, rinsed his mouth, and put it back into the well and also supplicated. Then we drank to our fill from the water and gave others to drink as well.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we reached a well in which there was very little water. Five men went down into the well to draw water, and I was the sixth. A bucket was lowered to us in the well. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was present at the edge of the well. We filled the bucket halfway or two-thirds with water, and then it was pulled up towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I tried to pour some water into my vessel to moisten my throat, but I could not get even that little water. The bucket was pulled up towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he dipped his hand into it and prayed to Allah Almighty, then the bucket with the water was sent back down to us into the well. By its blessing, so much water appeared in the well that, out of fear of drowning, each of us had to be tied with cloth and taken out, and after that, it began to flow like a stream.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was on a journey with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the noble companions. They had a vessel for ablution, in which there was only a handful of water. When the sun became very intense, that is, the heat increased, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came before the people. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! We are dying from the severity of thirst, our necks are breaking. He said: Today, destruction will not befall you. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Abu Qatadah! Bring the vessel for ablution. I presented that vessel to him, he said: Bring my small cup. I opened it and brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he poured water into it and began to give it to the people to drink. The people gathered around him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Adopt good manners when taking water, each of you will return fully quenched. All the people drank plenty of water, only the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I were left. He poured water into the cup for me and said: Abu Qatadah! Drink. I said: O Messenger of Allah! You drink first. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who serves drinks last. Then I drank, then after me he (peace and blessings be upon him) drank, and the amount of water in the ablution vessel remained almost the same. That day, the number of companions was three hundred.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aiz bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the water was little. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution in a bowl or an open vessel. We took water from it and performed a brief ablution. Among us, the fortunate one was he who got some of that water. We think that everyone received some of the water. After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer at the time of Duha (forenoon).

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We traveled all night, until in the last part of the night we entered into such a state that no state is more beloved to a traveler—meaning, we fell asleep. The heat of the sun woke us up. The first to wake up was so-and-so, then so-and-so. Abu Raja (the narrator) used to mention their names, but his student Awf forgot them. After them, the fourth to wake up was Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). The usual practice was that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asleep, we would not wake him until he woke up himself, because we did not know what state might be revealed to him during sleep. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) woke up and observed the situation that had arisen among the people. He was a loud-voiced and brave man. He raised his voice, saying "Allahu Akbar," until his voice woke the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he woke up, the companions complained to him about what had happened to them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No problem, let us move on." After leaving from there, he (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped a little further. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water for ablution, performed ablution, the call to prayer was given, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer and turned around, he saw a man sitting apart who had not prayed with the people. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O so-and-so! What prevented you from praying with the people?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah! I became junub (in a state of major ritual impurity) and there is no water available for bathing." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Use earth (i.e., perform tayammum with soil). That is sufficient for you." After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) moved on. The people complained of thirst. He (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted and called Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and another man. The narrator of the hadith, Abu Raja, used to mention his name, but his student Awf forgot it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to both of them: "Go and search for water for us." Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) says: They both went off. They met a woman who was carrying two water skins on her camel. They asked her: "Where can we find water?" She replied: "Water is very far from here. I have been traveling with this water since this time yesterday and am still on the journey. Our men are not present." They said to her: "Alright, then come with us." She asked: "Where?" They said: "To the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." She said: "To that man who is called a Sabi (one who has left his religion and is irreligious)?" They said: "Yes, he is the one you think he is, so come along." They brought her to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the whole incident to him. The companions asked the woman to dismount. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a vessel, opened the mouths of the water skins, and poured water into the vessel. It was announced among the people: "Drink and give your animals to drink." Whoever wanted to drink, drank, and whoever wanted to give their animals to drink, did so. In the end, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also gave a vessel of water to the man who was in a state of janabah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and pour this water over yourself, i.e., perform ghusl (ritual bath)." The woman stood watching all these scenes, seeing what was happening with her water. By Allah! When the woman was given permission to leave, it seemed to us as if her water skins were fuller than before. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gather some provisions to give her." The companions gathered a good amount of Ajwa dates, flour, and sattu (roasted barley meal), etc., put it all in a cloth, and placed it in front of her on her camel. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "By Allah! You know that we have not diminished your water in the least. Allah, the Exalted, has provided us with water to drink." The woman returned to her people. She was quite late, so her family asked the reason for her delay. She told them that a strange incident had occurred. Two men met me. They took me to the man who is called a Sabi (irreligious and without faith). He did this with my water. She narrated the whole incident that had happened. She raised her middle and index fingers towards the sky and said: "By Allah! He is either the greatest magician among the people between the earth and the sky, or he is truly the Messenger of Allah." Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After that, the Muslims attacked the polytheists of that area, but they would not attack the tribe to which that woman belonged. One day, she said to her people: "I think these Muslims are deliberately sparing you. Will you not accept Islam?" So the people of the tribe accepted her advice and entered the fold of Islam.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I used to graze the goats of 'Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt. Once, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Boy! Is there any milk?" I said: "Yes, but I have been entrusted with this property (so I cannot give it without my master's permission)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there any goat that has not been mated with a male?" So I brought such a goat. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) touched its udder, milk descended into it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) milked it into a vessel, and he himself drank from it and gave it to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to drink as well. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the udder: "Shrink back." So it shrank back. Then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me something of this religion." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on my head and said: "May Allah have mercy on you, you are a beloved, educated boy." In another narration it is mentioned: Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) brought a stone shaped like a bowl to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) milked the goat into it, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and I drank the milk. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the udder: "Shrink back." So it shrank back. After that, I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something of this religion." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are a taught boy." Then I learned seventy surahs from the blessed mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and no one disputed with me about them.

Hammad bin Salamah says: I heard from an elder of the Qais tribe, who narrated from his father that he said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us when we had a rebellious she-camel, and we could not control her. But when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approached her and touched her udders, they became filled with milk, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) milked her. When my father passed away, I wrapped him in his shroud and tied his shroud with a thorn from a date palm tree, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not cause your father pain with this thorn. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) removed the cloth from his chest, threw away the membrane, and spat on his chest, to the extent that I clearly saw the drops of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saliva on his chest.

It is narrated from the daughter of Sayyiduna Khabbab bin Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him), she says: My father went out with an army, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took great care of us, to the extent that he would even milk our goat for us. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) would milk it, the milk would overflow from the vessel, but when Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) returned and milked the same goat, the milk became less as before. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: At night, the sky became cloudy and rainy. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went for the 'Isha prayer and lightning flashed, he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Sayyiduna Qatadah bin Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: Qatadah! What has brought you here at this time? He replied: O Messenger of Allah! I thought there would be few worshippers, so I wanted to make sure I reached. Upon hearing this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you have performed the prayer, remain seated in your place until I come. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he gave him a branch of a date palm and said: Take this branch, it will create light for you ten (hand spans) ahead and ten behind. When you enter your house and see a presence in a corner of the house, before speaking, strike it, for it will be a devil. So he did as instructed, and for this reason, we like such branches and sticks.
