Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We traveled all night, until in the last part of the night we entered into such a state that no state is more beloved to a traveler—meaning, we fell asleep. The heat of the sun woke us up. The first to wake up was so-and-so, then so-and-so. Abu Raja (the narrator) used to mention their names, but his student Awf forgot them. After them, the fourth to wake up was Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). The usual practice was that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asleep, we would not wake him until he woke up himself, because we did not know what state might be revealed to him during sleep. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) woke up and observed the situation that had arisen among the people. He was a loud-voiced and brave man. He raised his voice, saying "Allahu Akbar," until his voice woke the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he woke up, the companions complained to him about what had happened to them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No problem, let us move on." After leaving from there, he (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped a little further. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water for ablution, performed ablution, the call to prayer was given, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer and turned around, he saw a man sitting apart who had not prayed with the people. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O so-and-so! What prevented you from praying with the people?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah! I became junub (in a state of major ritual impurity) and there is no water available for bathing." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Use earth (i.e., perform tayammum with soil). That is sufficient for you." After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) moved on. The people complained of thirst. He (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted and called Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and another man. The narrator of the hadith, Abu Raja, used to mention his name, but his student Awf forgot it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to both of them: "Go and search for water for us." Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) says: They both went off. They met a woman who was carrying two water skins on her camel. They asked her: "Where can we find water?" She replied: "Water is very far from here. I have been traveling with this water since this time yesterday and am still on the journey. Our men are not present." They said to her: "Alright, then come with us." She asked: "Where?" They said: "To the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." She said: "To that man who is called a Sabi (one who has left his religion and is irreligious)?" They said: "Yes, he is the one you think he is, so come along." They brought her to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the whole incident to him. The companions asked the woman to dismount. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a vessel, opened the mouths of the water skins, and poured water into the vessel. It was announced among the people: "Drink and give your animals to drink." Whoever wanted to drink, drank, and whoever wanted to give their animals to drink, did so. In the end, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also gave a vessel of water to the man who was in a state of janabah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and pour this water over yourself, i.e., perform ghusl (ritual bath)." The woman stood watching all these scenes, seeing what was happening with her water. By Allah! When the woman was given permission to leave, it seemed to us as if her water skins were fuller than before. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gather some provisions to give her." The companions gathered a good amount of Ajwa dates, flour, and sattu (roasted barley meal), etc., put it all in a cloth, and placed it in front of her on her camel. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "By Allah! You know that we have not diminished your water in the least. Allah, the Exalted, has provided us with water to drink." The woman returned to her people. She was quite late, so her family asked the reason for her delay. She told them that a strange incident had occurred. Two men met me. They took me to the man who is called a Sabi (irreligious and without faith). He did this with my water. She narrated the whole incident that had happened. She raised her middle and index fingers towards the sky and said: "By Allah! He is either the greatest magician among the people between the earth and the sky, or he is truly the Messenger of Allah." Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After that, the Muslims attacked the polytheists of that area, but they would not attack the tribe to which that woman belonged. One day, she said to her people: "I think these Muslims are deliberately sparing you. Will you not accept Islam?" So the people of the tribe accepted her advice and entered the fold of Islam.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I used to graze the goats of 'Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt. Once, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Boy! Is there any milk?" I said: "Yes, but I have been entrusted with this property (so I cannot give it without my master's permission)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there any goat that has not been mated with a male?" So I brought such a goat. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) touched its udder, milk descended into it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) milked it into a vessel, and he himself drank from it and gave it to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to drink as well. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the udder: "Shrink back." So it shrank back. Then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me something of this religion." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on my head and said: "May Allah have mercy on you, you are a beloved, educated boy." In another narration it is mentioned: Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) brought a stone shaped like a bowl to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) milked the goat into it, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and I drank the milk. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the udder: "Shrink back." So it shrank back. After that, I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me something of this religion." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are a taught boy." Then I learned seventy surahs from the blessed mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and no one disputed with me about them.

Hammad bin Salamah says: I heard from an elder of the Qais tribe, who narrated from his father that he said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us when we had a rebellious she-camel, and we could not control her. But when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approached her and touched her udders, they became filled with milk, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) milked her. When my father passed away, I wrapped him in his shroud and tied his shroud with a thorn from a date palm tree, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not cause your father pain with this thorn. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) removed the cloth from his chest, threw away the membrane, and spat on his chest, to the extent that I clearly saw the drops of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saliva on his chest.

It is narrated from the daughter of Sayyiduna Khabbab bin Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him), she says: My father went out with an army, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took great care of us, to the extent that he would even milk our goat for us. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) would milk it, the milk would overflow from the vessel, but when Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) returned and milked the same goat, the milk became less as before. We said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to milk this goat, the milk would overflow and the vessel would be filled, but when you have milked it, the milk has gone back to being less.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Jewish woman mixed poison in meat and presented it before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate that meat and said: She has mixed poison in this food. The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Should we not kill her? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No. I continued to recognize the effect of that poison in the palate of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: At night, the sky became cloudy and rainy. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went for the 'Isha prayer and lightning flashed, he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Sayyiduna Qatadah bin Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: Qatadah! What has brought you here at this time? He replied: O Messenger of Allah! I thought there would be few worshippers, so I wanted to make sure I reached. Upon hearing this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you have performed the prayer, remain seated in your place until I come. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he gave him a branch of a date palm and said: Take this branch, it will create light for you ten (hand spans) ahead and ten behind. When you enter your house and see a presence in a corner of the house, before speaking, strike it, for it will be a devil. So he did as instructed, and for this reason, we like such branches and sticks.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit the house of Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) and would sleep on her bed, while she was not in it. One day, it happened as usual that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went and slept on her bed. Someone came and informed Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet is sleeping in your house on your bed. So she came and saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sweating, and his sweat was dripping onto a piece of leather on the bed. She opened her beauty box and began to soak up the sweat and squeeze it into her bottles. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became concerned and asked: "O Umm Sulaym! What are you doing?" She replied: "O Messenger of Allah! We hope for blessings for our children from this." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have done right."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and drank water from it. Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) cut off the mouth of the water-skin, and now it is with us.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik that a man invited the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so he, peace and blessings be upon him, went and I also went with him, peace and blessings be upon him. Then soup was brought in the food, and there were gourds in it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, began to eat the gourds from it. In fact, gourds were liked by him, peace and blessings be upon him. When I observed this, I started picking out the gourds and giving them to him, peace and blessings be upon him, and I was not eating myself (so that he, peace and blessings be upon him, could eat to his fill). Sayyiduna Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, says: Therefore, I always liked gourds because of this. Sulaiman Taymi says: In the season of gourds, whenever we used to come to Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, we would find gourds in his food.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Sayyidah Umm Sulaym gave me a basket and sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in which there were fresh dates. I did not find him at home; he (peace and blessings be upon him) had gone nearby to one of his slaves. In fact, he had prepared food and invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and found him in the state that he was eating food. So, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invited me to eat as well. That man had made tharid of meat and gourd for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I noticed that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was very fond of gourd, so I started gathering the pieces of gourd and bringing them closer to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished eating and returned home, I placed that basket before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to eat those dates and distribute them, until they were finished.

She replied to the messenger: "By Allah! Only the neck is left, and I feel shy before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to send him just the neck." So the messenger returned and informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) of the situation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back and tell her to send even the neck, for it is the first part of the goat, the best in taste and cooking, and farthest from urine and droppings."
