Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ash'ath رضي الله عنه said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: Whoever swears a false oath in order to usurp the wealth of a Muslim, he will meet Allah the Exalted in a state that Allah will be angry with him. Ash'ath said: By Allah! This matter happened with me; there was a dispute over land between me and a Jew, and he denied my claim, so I took him to the Messenger of Allah The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said to me: Do you have any witnesses? I said: No. So he صلى الله عليه وسلم said to the Jew: Swear an oath. I said: O Messenger of Allah! If he swears an oath, he will take my wealth. Upon this, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse:“Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price...”(__QUR_N__).

Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When this verse was revealed: ﴿And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him﴾, the Jews said: We are also Muslims. Allah the Exalted said: Argue with them according to their own proof, and say: Surely Allah has made Hajj to the House of Allah obligatory upon the Muslims, for those who have the ability, and whoever among the people of the religions disbelieves, then surely Allah is free of need from all the worlds.

A Bedouin asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): I said to my wife that she is forbidden to me, so has she really become forbidden to me? The Bedouin said: No. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Israel was afflicted with sciatica, which weakened him, so he made a vow to Allah that if Allah cured him, he would never eat the meat of the thigh.
