قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {الَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ النَّاسُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا لَكُمْ فَاخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَقَالُوا حَسْبُنَا اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ * فَانْقَلَبُوا بِنِعْمَةٍ مِنَ اللهِ وَفَضْلٍ لَمْ يَمْسَسْهُمْ سُوءٌ}

It is narrated from ‘Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) that in the time of ignorance, trade used to be conducted in the open field, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had made an appointment with Abu Sufyan to meet there. Then a man came to them and said that a large number of polytheists had gathered there, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people, and they reached Badr but did not meet anyone there, so they returned. Then this verse was revealed: ﴿Those to whom the people said:“Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.”But it increased them in faith and they said:“Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.”So they returned with favor and bounty from Allah.﴾

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How can you live in comfort, while the owner of the horn has grasped the horn, has lowered his forehead, and is listening attentively, waiting for when he will be commanded to blow the trumpet?" The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Then what do you command us?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs, we place our trust in Allah."

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَلا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِثْمًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ}

Muhammad bin Ka'b, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Death is better for both the believer and the disbeliever. Then he recited this verse: ﴿And let not those who disbelieve think that Our granting them respite is good for themselves. We only grant them respite so that they may increase in sin﴾ ﴿And what is with Allah is better for the righteous﴾. Then he said: The longer the disbeliever lives, the more severe his punishment will be on the Day of Resurrection.

Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is no believer for whom death is not better, and there is no disbeliever for whom death is not better. Whoever does not believe me, then indeed Allah the Exalted says:“And what is with Allah is better for the righteous.”“And let not those who disbelieve think that Our giving them respite is good for themselves; We only give them respite so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment.”

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said in the explanation of (They will be made to wear that which they withheld, on the Day of Resurrection): That wealth will be turned into a bald snake on the Day of Resurrection and placed around his neck as a collar, with poisonous fangs on both sides of its mouth. It will bite his head, and he will say: What do I have to do with you? The snake will say: I am your wealth which you used to withhold.

Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This is the person to whom Allah gives wealth, but he does not give the rightful shares prescribed by Allah to his close relatives from that wealth. So that wealth is turned into a snake and made into a collar around his neck. Then he says to that snake: What do I have to do with you? The snake says: I am your wealth.
