Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "There was a man who had never done any good deed. He used to lend money to people. He would say to his agents: 'Take back the loan from the one who is well-off, and leave the one who is in difficulty and forgive him, so that Allah the Exalted may also forgive us.' The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, says: When he passed away, Allah the Exalted asked: 'Have you ever done any good deed?' He replied: 'No, except that I had a servant, and I used to lend money to people. When I sent this servant to collect, I would say to him: Take from the one who gives easily, and leave the one who is in difficulty and forgive him, so that Allah the Exalted may also forgive us.' So Allah the Exalted said: 'Indeed, I have also forgiven you.'"

(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: "He had never done any good deed" means: other than accepting Islam, he had not done any good deed.

‘Ubadah bin Walid narrates: My father and I went to the Ansar to seek knowledge before they passed away. The first person we met was Sayyiduna Abu Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him). His slave was also with him. Sayyiduna Abu Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) was wearing a sheet and a Ma’afiri sheet. His slave was also wearing a sheet and a Ma’afiri sheet. My father said to him: I see signs of anger on your face. He replied: Yes, I was owed some money by so-and-so. I went to his house and asked: Is he here? The people of the house replied: No. Then his son came out to me. I asked: Where is your father? He said: He heard your voice and went inside. I said (addressing that man): Come out to me, I know where you are. He came out to me. I asked: Why were you compelled to hide? He said: By Allah, I will tell you and I will not lie to you. By Allah, I feared that if (I came before you) and spoke with you, I would have to lie to you. I would make a promise to you and then have to break it. You are a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) (and I do not feel it is right to behave with you in such a way). By Allah, I am a person in hardship. Sayyiduna Abu Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked: Is it really so, by Allah? He said: By Allah, it is so. Sayyiduna Abu Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Then he took his document and erased it and said: If you are able to pay, then do so, otherwise it is forgiven from me. I bear witness that these two eyes of mine heard this and my heart preserved it. He pointed to his heart and said this. I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say:“Whoever gives respite to a person in hardship or forgives him (partially or completely), Allah Almighty will grant him His special shade.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The name of Sayyiduna Abu Yasar is Ka’b bin ‘Amr.

Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik narrates from his father: He demanded repayment of a debt from Ibn Abu Hadrad which was due upon him. This incident took place during the blessed time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and it happened in the mosque. Their voices became loud. Until the Prophet (peace be upon him), while he was in his house, heard their voices. The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to them, lifted the curtain of his chamber, and called out to Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in a loud voice, "O Ka'b bin Malik!" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), I am present." The Prophet (peace be upon him) gestured with his blessed hand that he should forgive half of the debt. Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), I have done so." The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said (to the other party), "Get up and pay the remaining amount."
