Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace be upon him) ordered her to come again. She said: If I come and do not find you? (Her intention was the demise of the Prophet, peace be upon him.) The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“If you do not find me, then go to Abu Bakr.”

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hawalah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said one day: "Suddenly you will rush upon a man (to pledge allegiance to him) who will be wrapped in a striped cloak, and he will be engaged in buying and selling with the people, and in that state, he will be of the people of Paradise." (One day it happened that) we crowded around Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) to pledge allegiance to him, and he was wrapped in a striped cloak and was engaged in buying and selling with the people. In this hadith, «يبايع» refers to buying and selling.

Jubair bin Nufair says that after the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), we were encamped with Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ka’b bin Murrah Bahzi (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: If I had not heard this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would not have stood at this place. When Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) heard the name of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he made the people sit down. He said:“We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by there, he had arranged his hair and had wrapped a cloth over his face. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘From beneath the feet of this (Uthman) a tribulation will emerge. At that time, he (Uthman) and his followers will be upon guidance.’”Near the pulpit, Ibn Hawalah Azdi stood up and said to me: (Ka’b!) Are you also his companion? I said: Yes. By Allah! I was present in that gathering. If I were certain that there are people in this army who would confirm my statement, I would be the first to speak about it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "This (caliphate) matter will remain dominant until twelve caliphs, all of them will be from the Quraysh."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The caliphate will be among the Quraysh, the office of judge among the Ansar, the call and propagation among the Abyssinians, and migration among the Muslims and among the later emigrants."

Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of some hair from the side of a camel from the war booty and said:“My share in this wealth is the same as that of any one of you. Beware of dishonesty, for dishonesty will be a cause of disgrace for the dishonest person on the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, return even a needle, thread, or anything of lesser value, whether you are traveling or at home, whether it belongs to a relative or a non-relative—strive in the way of Allah. (Remember that) Jihad is a door from the doors of Paradise; it delivers the Mujahid from grief, sorrow, and distress. Establish the limits of Allah among relatives and non-relatives alike, and let not the blame of any blamer concerning Allah affect you.”

Miqdam bin Ma’di Karib Kindi narrates that he was sitting with Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit, Sayyiduna Abu Darda, and Sayyiduna Harith bin Mu’awiyah Kindi (may Allah be pleased with them). These people were discussing the ahadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Darda said to ‘Ubada:“The words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which he said in such-and-such battle regarding the fifth share.”‘Ubada said:“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in prayer, and in front of him was a camel from the spoils of war. After finishing the prayer, he stood up, took hold of the hair on the camel’s body between two fingertips, and said: ‘This too is part of your spoils. Only my share will be given to me, which is the fifth part, and that too will be distributed among you. Therefore, return the needle, thread, and everything smaller or larger than that, and do not commit treachery, for treachery will be a cause of disgrace, shame, and humiliation for the traitor in this world and the Hereafter. For the sake of Allah, fight people in jihad, whether the journey is near or far, and do not care about the blame of any blamer regarding Allah. Establish the limits of Allah, whether at home or on a journey, and strive in the path of Allah. (Remember that) jihad is one of the great doors of Paradise. Through it, Allah delivers from every kind of grief, sorrow, and distress.’”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, every deceiver will have a flag at his backside, by which he will be recognized."

Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) decided to send me as a collector of zakat and said:“Abu Mas’ud! Go (and collect zakat), but beware lest you come on the Day of Resurrection and there is a camel of charity, which you had embezzled, crying out on your back.”He said: (If this is the warning) then I will not go. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“(If you wish to be so cautious) then I do not compel you.”

Shurayd bin Suwayd says: There was a man afflicted with leprosy in the delegation of Thaqif. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to him saying, "We have accepted your pledge of allegiance, so you may go back."
