The wife of the Messenger, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), says: When the land of Makkah became constricted for us, the companions of the Messenger were subjected to hardships and trials, and they saw the tribulations and tests we were afflicted with because of our religion, (for the time being) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) could not remove them, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself had strength and honor due to his people and his uncle, so he was protected from the hardships in which the general companions were involved. (One day) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "In Abyssinia there is a king, in whose kingdom no one is wronged. Go and join him, until Allah provides relief and a way out from these hardships." We (acted upon this suggestion and) set out in groups (from Makkah) and gathered at a most excellent place and with the best neighbor. He gave us security regarding our religion and we had no fear of any kind of oppression from his side. The narrator mentioned a lengthy hadith; similarly, this narration is in the Sunan and the complete narration is mentioned in four pages.

Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Khalid bin Haram migrated towards the land of Abyssinia. On the way, a snake bit him and he passed away. Then this verse was revealed: «وَمَنْ يَخْرُجْ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى اللَّـهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكْهُ الْمَوْتُ فَقَدْ وَقَعَ أَجْرُهُ عَلَى اللَّـهِ وَكَانَ اللَّـهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا» "And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger, and then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful." [4-النساء: 100]

Zubair bin Al-Awwam says that I was expecting him and waiting for his arrival in Abyssinia. When I received the news of his death, I was overcome with grief and sorrow, because whoever migrated from the Quraysh, he had some wife, child, or relative with him, and there was no man from the Banu Asad bin Abd al-Uzza tribe with me, nor did I have hope from anyone else besides him.

Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:“If you are attacked suddenly at night, your slogan (for identification) should be «حم لاينصرون» (Ha Meem – help will not be given to the disbelievers).”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa‘idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out on a Sunday and crossed the Thaniyyah Wada‘. He saw an army equipped with weapons. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:“Who are these people?”The companions said: This is ‘Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul, who is accompanied by six hundred Jewish companions from the tribe of Banu Qaynuqa‘, the tribe of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin Salam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:“Have these people become Muslim?”They said: No, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Tell them to go back, for I do not seek help from polytheists against polytheists.”

Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out for a battle. When he returned, a black girl came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I had made a vow that if Allah returned you safely and in well-being, I would beat the drum (duff) before you." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you really made a vow, then beat the drum, otherwise do not." She started beating the drum. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and she kept beating it. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and she kept beating it. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and she kept beating it. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, so she put the drum under her hips and sat on it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar! Shaytan is afraid of you. I was sitting and she was beating the drum, Abu Bakr came and she kept beating it, then Ali came and she kept beating it, then Uthman came and she kept beating it. Umar! When you entered, she put the drum away."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the believer wearies his devils just as one of you wearies his camel during a journey."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Al-Hirah (the place) has been likened for me to the fangs of dogs, and soon you will conquer it.”A man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Grant me Bint Baqilah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Give her to him.”Her father came and said:“Will you sell her to me?”He said: Yes. He asked: For how much? He said: I will set my own price, and I will sell her for one thousand dirhams. He said: I have bought her. It was said: What if I had said thirty thousand? He said: Is there any number greater than a thousand?

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the conquered lands of my Ummah were presented before me, I became very happy. Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: «وَلَلْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنَ الْأُولَى ٭ وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَى» 'And surely the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life). And soon your Lord will give you (so much) that you will be pleased.' (93:4-5, Ad-Duha) Allah the Exalted has given you (O Prophet) a thousand palaces of pearls in Paradise, whose soil is musk, and in each palace is that which befits it."

Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Quraysh sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When I saw him, love for Islam was placed in my heart. I said: O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I will never return to them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“I do not break covenants, nor do I detain messengers. Go back, and if you still have the same (desire to accept Islam) in your heart as you do now, then return.”

Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about fasting during travel. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Whichever of the two is easier for you (to fast or not to fast during travel), choose that.”
