Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“ «قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ» , that is, Surah Al-Kafirun, is equal to one-fourth of the Qur’an.”

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gather together, for I am going to recite to you one third of the Qur'an." Those who were to gather, gathered. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and recited «قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ» and then went back. We began to say to one another: It seems that some (new) news has come from the sky which has made the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) enter his house. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and said: "I told you that I would recite to you one third of the Qur'an. Be aware! (Surah Al-Ikhlas) is equal to one third of the Qur'an (which I have recited to you)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever recites «قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ» , that is, Surah al-Ikhlas, ten times to the end, Allah Almighty will build a palace for him in Paradise." Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O Messenger of Allah! Then we can acquire many palaces. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah Almighty is even more abundant and excellent in giving."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Verses have been revealed to me which are unparalleled (in the chapter of seeking refuge), and they are: from «قل اعوذ برب الفلق» to the end of the surah and from «قل اعوذ برب الناس» to the end of the surah."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abis Jahni, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: "Ibn Abis! Shall I not tell you the most excellent (remembrance) with which those who seek refuge, seek refuge?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! Why not. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "These are two surahs: Surah Al-Falaq «قل اعوذ برب الفلق» and Surah An-Nas «قل اعوذ برب الناس» ."

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He (peace be upon him) said: "O Uqbah bin Amir! Maintain ties with the one who severs relations with you. Give to the one who deprives you. Forgive the one who wrongs you." I then came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again, and he (peace be upon him) said: "Uqbah bin Amir! Restrain your tongue, weep over your mistakes, and let your house contain you (do not leave your house without necessity)." Later, when I met him (for the third time), he (peace be upon him) said: "Uqbah bin Amir! Shall I not teach you such Surahs that no Surahs like them were revealed in the Torah, nor in the Psalms, nor in the Gospel, nor in the rest of the Qur'an? Recite them every night. These Surahs are: Surah Ikhlas «قل هو الله احد» , Surah Falaq «قل اعوذ برب الفلق» , and Surah Nas «قل اعوذ برب الناس» ."

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a Jew used to come to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to trust him. He (the Jew) tied knots (to perform magic on the Prophet, peace be upon him) and placed this act in the well of an Ansari. Because of this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) remained ill for a few days (according to the narration of Sayyidah Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, for six months). Two angels came to visit the Prophet (peace be upon him) during his illness; one sat near his head and the other at his feet. One asked the other: "Do you know what is ailing him?" The other replied: "So-and-so (the Jew) who used to come to him, tied knots and placed his act in the well of such-and-such Ansari. If someone is sent to bring those knots, he will find the water of the well yellow." Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas) and said: "So-and-so Jew has performed magic on you, and the act of magic is in such-and-such well." The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent a man (according to one narration, Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him), who saw that the water had turned yellow, and he brought back the knots. Jibreel (peace be upon him) told the Prophet (peace be upon him) to recite one verse and untie one knot at a time. The Prophet (peace be upon him) untied one knot, then kept reciting a verse and untying the knots. As soon as a knot was untied, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would feel relief, until he was completely cured. In one narration, it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood up as if he had been tied with ropes and was set free by untying the ropes. That (Jewish magician) used to come to the Prophet (peace be upon him) after this incident, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) never mentioned anything to him nor ever scolded him, until he died.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You can recite the Qur'an in seven dialects; each dialect is satisfactory and sufficient."

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: After accepting Islam, no doubt ever entered my heart, but one day it happened that I recited a verse and another man recited the same verse in a different manner. I said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught me to recite it this way. That man said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also taught me. We both went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I said: O Messenger of Allah! Did you not teach me such-and-such verse in this manner? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Yes." The other man said: Did you not teach me in this way? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Yes." Jibril and Mika'il came to me. Jibril sat on my right side and Mika'il on my left. Jibril said: Recite the Qur'an in one mode. Mika'il said: Allow more. Then Jibril said: Recite the Qur'an in two modes. Mika'il said: Allow more. (This repetition continued) until permission was granted to recite the Qur'an in seven modes, and Jibril said: Each of these modes is complete and sufficient."

Abu Wa'il says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon, in which he said: When I myself have recited seventy-three or seventy-four surahs from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then how can you tell me to adopt the recitation of Zaid bin Thabit, when at that time Zaid used to be with the boys and he even had two locks of hair?
