It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The previous scriptures were revealed from one door in one dialect, and the Noble Qur'an was revealed from seven doors in seven dialects."

Abu Qais, who was the slave of Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a man reciting a verse of the Noble Qur’an and asked:“Who taught you this verse?”He replied:“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did.”He (Amr) said:“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also taught me this verse, but in a different manner.”Both of them went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and one of them said:“O Messenger of Allah! Such-and-such verse,”and then he recited it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“It was revealed in this way (as you have recited).”The other said:“O Messenger of Allah!”and then he recited the same verse (in a different manner) and said:“O Messenger of Allah! Was this verse not revealed in the way I have recited it?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“It was revealed in this way as well.”Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (giving the final decision) said:“Indeed, this Noble Qur’an was revealed upon seven dialects; whichever dialect you recite in, you will be correct. (Just remember that) do not dispute regarding the Noble Qur’an, for such disputing is disbelief.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "This Qur'an has been revealed in seven dialects, recite it (in any of them), there is no harm (in any dialect), (however, this much is necessary that) do not conclude the mention of mercy with punishment, nor the mention of punishment with mercy."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Recite the Qur'an in forty days." Then he said, "Recite it in thirty days." Then he said, "Recite it in twenty days." Then he said, "If not, then in fifteen days." Then he said, "If not, then in ten days." Or, "Then in seven days." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded the matter at seven days.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! In how many days should I complete the recitation of the Qur'an? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Complete the Qur'an in every month." I said: I am able to do more than that. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then in twenty-five days." ... "Or then in twenty days." ... "Alright, then in fifteen days." ... "If not, then in seven days, (but) whoever completes the Qur'an in less than three days, he has not understood it."

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not complete the recitation of the Qur'an in less than three days.

Ibn Abzi narrates from his father Abzi, may Allah be pleased with him, that (one day) the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) overlooked a verse, and after completing the prayer, he asked:“Is Ubayy among the people?”Sayyiduna Ubayy, may Allah be pleased with him, asked:“Has such-and-such verse been abrogated or have you forgotten it?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Rather, I have been made to forget it.”

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth or gold, he would surely seek a third valley, and nothing will fill the belly of the son of Adam except dust. And Allah turns with mercy to him who repents to Him. A large number of the Companions narrated this, such as: Sayyiduna Anas, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Zubair, Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with them), and others.

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: A man came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and was asking (for something). You would sometimes look at his head and sometimes at his feet, so that some sign of poverty and destitution might be seen in him. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "How much wealth do you have?" He said: "Forty camels." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) have spoken the truth, that if the son of Adam had two valleys of gold, he would surely seek a third valley. Nothing will fill the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and Allah turns with mercy to him who repents to Him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What is this?" (i.e., he was surprised about the hadith). Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I said: My father (may Allah be pleased with him) taught me in this way. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Take us to him." He says that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "What does he say?" Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also told me in this way.

Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to recite this verse as well: If the son of Adam possesses two valleys of gold and silver, he will seek a third one; only dust can fill the belly of the son of Adam, and Allah accepts the repentance of the one who turns to Him.
