Virtues of Abdullah ibn Salam.
Sayyiduna Amir bin Sa’d says: I heard my father (may Allah be pleased with him) say that I did not hear from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about any living person who walks around that he is in Paradise, except for Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him). (This is his own information, otherwise many companions received the glad tidings of Paradise, such as the ten who were given glad tidings, etc.)

Khursha bin Har says: I was sitting in a circle in the mosque of Madinah, and there was also a handsome old man there. It became known that he was Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him). He was speaking good things to the people. When he stood up, the people said, "Whoever wishes to see a person of Paradise, let him look at him." I said (in my heart), "By Allah, I will go with him and see his house." Then I followed him. He walked until he was about to leave the city, then he went into his house, so I also asked for permission to enter. He gave permission, then asked, "O my nephew! What do you need?" I said, "When you stood up, I heard the people say, 'Whoever wishes to see a person of Paradise, let him look at him,' so I wished to be with you." He said, "Allah knows best about the people of Paradise, and I will tell you the reason why people say this about me. Once I was sleeping, and in my dream a person came and said, 'Get up.' Then he took my hand, and I went with him. I found some paths on the left side, so I wanted to go on them, but he said, 'Do not go on them; these are the paths of the people of the left (i.e., the disbelievers).' Then I found some paths on the right side, so that person said, 'Go on these paths.' So he brought me to a mountain and said, 'Climb it.' I tried to climb up, but I fell on my back. Many times I tried to climb, but each time I fell. Then he took me along until we came to a pillar whose top was in the sky and its base in the earth, and on top of it was a ring. That person said to me, 'Climb up this pillar.' I said, 'How can I climb it when its top is in the sky?' Finally, that person took my hand and lifted me up, and I saw that I was hanging, holding onto that ring. Then that person struck the pillar, so it fell, and I remained hanging on that ring until morning (because there was no way to get down)." He says, "Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and related my dream to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'The paths you saw on the left are the paths of the people of the left, and the paths you saw on the right are the paths of the people of the right. And that mountain is the station of the martyrs; you will not reach there. And the pillar is the pillar of Islam, and the ring is the ring of Islam, and you will remain firm upon Islam until you die.' (And when one dies upon Islam, Paradise is certain, and that is why people call me a person of Paradise.)"

Virtues of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh.
`Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, while the funeral of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was placed before them, that the Throne of the Lord shook for him.

Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that a silk garment was presented as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). His companions began to touch it and were amazed at its softness. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Are you amazed at its softness? Indeed, the handkerchiefs of Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) in Paradise are better and softer than this.”

Virtues of Abu Talhah al-Ansari and his wife Umm Sulaym.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) had a son from Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) who passed away. She told her family members not to inform Abu Talhah about his son until she herself told him. Eventually, Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) came home, and Sayyidah Umm Sulaym presented the evening meal before him. He ate and drank, then Umm Sulaym adorned herself well for him until he had intercourse with her. When Umm Sulaym saw that he was satisfied and had been intimate with her, she said,“O Abu Talhah! If some people entrust something to the people of a household and then ask for it back, can the household prevent them from taking it?”Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied,“No, they cannot prevent them.”Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said,“Then hope for reward from Allah for your son (because the son had passed away).”Upon hearing this, Abu Talhah became angry and said,“You kept me unaware until I became impure with you (i.e., had intercourse), and now you inform me about my son?”He went and informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“May Allah bless you in the night you have spent.”Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) became pregnant. It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey, and Umm Sulaym was with him. Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from a journey to Madinah, he would not enter Madinah at night. When the people neared Madinah, Umm Sulaym began experiencing labor pains, and Abu Talhah stayed with her while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) proceeded. Abu Talhah said,“O Lord! You know that I love to go out with Your Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) when he goes out, and to enter with him when he enters, but You know the reason I have stayed behind.”Umm Sulaym said,“O Abu Talhah! I no longer feel the pain as before, so let us go.”So we set out, and when both of us reached Madinah, Umm Sulaym again began experiencing labor pains and gave birth to a boy. My mother said,“O Anas! Do not let anyone nurse him until you take him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the morning.”When morning came, I took the child and brought him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I arrived, I saw that he had an iron tool for branding camels in his hand. When he saw me, he said,“Perhaps Umm Sulaym has given birth to a boy?”I said,“Yes.”He put the tool down from his blessed hand, and I placed the child in his lap. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for some dates of Madinah (ajwah), chewed them in his blessed mouth, and when they became soft, he put them into the child’s mouth. The child began to suck on them, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“See how much the Ansar love dates!”Then he passed his hand over the child’s face and named him Abdullah.

Virtues of Ubayy ibn Ka'b.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), four persons compiled the Qur'an, and all four were Ansari. Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal, Ubayy bin Ka'b, Zayd bin Thabit, and Abu Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them). Qatadah said: I asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), "Who is Abu Zayd?" He said: He was one of my uncles.

Virtues of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari.
‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Samit narrates that’ Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I, my brother Anis, and our mother, all three of us, left our tribe Ghifar, who used to consider even the sacred months as permissible. So we went to stay with one of our maternal uncles. He treated us well and did good to us, but his people became jealous of us and said to him,“When you leave your house, Anis commits adultery with your wife.”He came to us and foolishly spread this rumor. I said,“The favor you did to us has now been spoiled; we can no longer stay with you.”So we went to our camels, loaded our belongings, and our uncle wrapped himself in his cloth and began to weep. We left until we camped in front of Makkah. Anis made a bet with our camels for an equal number of others. Then both went to a soothsayer, and the soothsayer said to Anis,“He is better.”So Anis brought us all the camels and as many more. Abu Dharr said,“O son of my brother! I had performed prayer three years before meeting the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”I asked,“For whom did you pray?”Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“For Allah, the Exalted.”I asked,“In which direction did you face?”He said,“I faced wherever Allah turned my face.”I would pray ‘Isha at the end of the night and would lie like a blanket until the sun rose. Anis said,“I have some work in Makkah; you stay here, I will go.”He went and was delayed in returning. When he came back, I asked,“What did you do?”He replied,“I met a man in Makkah who is upon your religion and says that Allah has sent him.”I asked,“What do people call him?”He said,“People call him a poet, a soothsayer, and a magician.”Anis himself was a poet. He said,“I have heard the words of soothsayers, but the words this man recites are not those of soothsayers. I have measured his speech against all the meters of poetry, but after me, it will not fit anyone’s tongue like poetry. By Allah, he is truthful and the people are liars.”I said,“You stay here, I will go and see this man.”Then I came to Makkah and picked out a weak person from among the people of Makkah (because a strong person might harm me), and asked him,“Where is the man whom you call a Sabi’ (renegade)?”He pointed at me and said,“This is the Sabi’ (since you are asking about the Sabi’).”Hearing this, all the people of the valley attacked me with stones and bones until I fell unconscious. When I regained consciousness and stood up, I saw myself as if I were a red idol (i.e., covered in blood from head to toe). Then I came to Zamzam, washed off all the blood, and drank Zamzam water. So, O my nephew! I stayed there for thirty nights or thirty days, and I had no food except Zamzam water (whenever I felt hungry, I drank it). Then I became fat until the folds of my belly hung down (from obesity), and I did not feel any weakness from hunger in my chest. Once, the people of Makkah slept on a moonlit night, and at that time no one was performing Tawaf of the Ka’bah except two women who were calling upon Isaf and Na’ila (Isaf and Na’ila were two idols in Makkah; Isaf was a man and Na’ila was a woman, and the disbelievers believed that both had committed adultery there, so they were transformed into idols). They came before me while performing Tawaf. I said,“Marry one to the other (i.e., Isaf to Na’ila).”Even after hearing this, they did not desist from their act. Then I openly said,“Put a stick in their private parts (i.e., this obscenity is due to the worship of Isaf and Na’ila),”and I did not use a euphemism (i.e., I did not use indirect language but openly cursed Isaf and Na’ila to anger those accursed women who, in the House of Allah, called upon Isaf and Na’ila instead of Allah). Hearing this, both women screamed and left, saying,“If only there were someone from our people here (who would punish this man for his disrespect)!”On the way, they met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), who were descending from the mountain. They asked the women,“What happened?”They replied,“A Sabi’ has come who is hiding in the curtains of the Ka’bah.”They asked,“What did this Sabi’ say?”They replied,“He said something that fills the mouth (i.e., we cannot utter it).”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came, kissed the Black Stone, performed Tawaf with his companion, and prayed. When they finished the prayer, Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“I was the first to offer the greeting and said, ‘Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah!’”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied,“And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.”Then he asked,“Who are you?”I said,“A man from Ghifar.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lowered his hand and placed his fingers on his forehead (as if in remembrance). I thought to myself, perhaps he disliked that I said I was from (the tribe of) Ghifar. I reached out to take the Prophet’s hand, but his companion (Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him), who knew more about the Prophet’s condition than I did, stopped me. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and asked,“When did you come here?”I replied,“I have been here for thirty nights or days.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Who feeds you?”I said,“Nothing except Zamzam water.”Then I became fat until the folds of my belly bent, and I do not feel any weakness from hunger in my chest. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Zamzam water is blessed; it is food and fills the belly like food.”Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to feed him tonight.”Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and I went with them. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) opened a door and brought out some dried grapes from Ta’if; this was the first food I ate in Makkah. Then I stayed as long as I stayed, and after that I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said,“A land of date palms has been shown to me; I think that land is none other than Yathrib.”(Yathrib was the name of Madinah.)“So, on my behalf, invite your people to the religion; perhaps Allah will benefit them through you and reward you.”I went to Anis, and he asked,“What did you do?”I said,“I have accepted Islam and affirmed the Prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”He said,“I do not dislike your religion; I too have accepted Islam and affirmed his Prophethood.”Then we both went to our mother, and she said,“I do not dislike your religion either; I too have accepted Islam and affirmed it.”Then we loaded our belongings on the camels until we reached our tribe Ghifar. Half of the tribe became Muslim, and their leader was Ima’ bin Rahda Ghifari, who was also their chief. The other half said,“When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) comes to Madinah, we will become Muslim.”Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, and the remaining half also became Muslim. The people of (the tribe of) Aslam came and said,“O Messenger of Allah! We too become Muslim like our Ghifari brothers.”So they also became Muslim. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Allah has forgiven Ghifar, and Allah has saved Aslam (from killing and captivity).”

‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that when Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) heard the news of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) being sent in Makkah, he said to his brother,“Mount your ride and go to this valley and see that person who claims that news comes to him from the sky. Listen to what he says and then come back to me.”So his brother set out, until he reached Makkah and heard the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then returned to Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said,“I have seen that person; he commands good character and recites a speech which is not poetry.”Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“This did not satisfy me.”Then he himself took provisions and a water-skin until he reached Makkah and entered Masjid al-Haram. There he searched for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) but did not recognize him, nor did he consider it appropriate to ask. Night fell and he lay down. ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him and recognized that he was a traveler, so he followed him, but neither spoke to the other until morning came. Then he brought his provisions and water-skin to the mosque and stayed there all day, but did not see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) until evening. Then he went to his sleeping place. ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by and said,“Has the time not come for this man to know his place?”Then he stood him up and took him along, but neither spoke to the other. The same happened on the third day. ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stood him up and took him along, then said,“Why do you not tell me the reason for which you have come to this city?”Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“If you promise and pledge to guide me, I will tell you.”‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) promised, so he told him. ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“That person is truthful and he is indeed the Messenger of Allah. In the morning, walk with me. If I see anything that makes me fear for your life, I will stand as if pouring water (i.e., I will pretend to urinate), and if I move on, then follow me. Wherever I enter, you also enter.”Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) did so and followed him until ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) also reached with him. Then Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) listened to the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and accepted Islam right there. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“Go to your people and inform them about the religion until my command reaches you.”Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I will proclaim this (i.e., my acceptance of Islam) to the people of Makkah.”Then Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) came out to the mosque and proclaimed loudly,“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the true Messenger of Allah.”The people attacked him and beat him until he fell down. ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came and leaned over Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to the people,“Woe to you! Do you not know that this man is from (the tribe of) Ghifar, and your trade route to Syria passes through the land of Ghifar (so they may cut off your trade)?”Then he rescued Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) from them. The next day, Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) did the same, and the people rushed and beat him, and ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came and rescued him.

Virtues of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari.
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he was at that time at Ji'ranah, between Makkah and Madinah, and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was with him. Then a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Do you not fulfill your promise to me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Rejoice." He replied, "You say 'rejoice' a lot." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned in anger towards Sayyiduna Abu Musa and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said, "He has rejected the glad tidings, but you both accept it." Both said, "O Messenger of Allah! We have accepted." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked for a bowl of water, washed his hands and face in it, put some of his saliva in it, and said to both of them, "Drink from this water, pour it over your faces and chests, and rejoice." Both of them took the bowl and did so. Umm al-Mu'mineen Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) called out to them from behind a curtain, "Leave some water in the vessel for your mother as well." So both of them left some water in the vessel for her.

Virtues of Abu Musa and Abu Amir al-Ash'ari.
‘Sayyiduna Abu Burdah narrates from his father Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the battle of Hunayn, he sent Sayyiduna Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) with an army to Autas, where he confronted Duraid bin as-Simmah. Duraid bin as-Simmah was killed, and Allah granted defeat to those with him. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had also sent me with Sayyiduna Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). Then, an arrow from a man of Banu Jusham struck Sayyiduna Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) in the knee and became lodged in his knee. I went to him and asked,“O uncle! Who shot you with this arrow?”He said,“This man killed me, and this man shot me with the arrow.”Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“I pursued that man and caught up with him. When he saw me, he turned his back and fled. I chased after him and began to say, ‘O shameless one! Are you not an Arab? Will you not stand your ground?’ So he stopped. Then I confronted him; he struck at me and I struck at him, and finally, I killed him with my sword. Then I returned to Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, ‘Allah has caused the killer to be killed.’ Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Now pull out this arrow.’ I pulled it out, and water came out from the place of the arrow (not blood; perhaps the arrow was poisoned). Abu Amir said, ‘O my nephew! Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and convey my greetings, and say: Pray for Abu Amir’s forgiveness.’ Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) made me the leader of the people, and he lived for a short while, then passed away.’ When I returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he was in a small room on a bed made of palm fibers, which had left marks on his back and sides. I said, ‘Abu Amir requested you to pray for his forgiveness.’ So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water, performed ablution, then raised both hands and said, ‘O Allah! Forgive Ubaid Abu Amir (his name was Ubaid bin Sulaim),’ until I saw the whiteness of the armpits of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he said, ‘O Allah! Make Abu Amir the leader of many people on the Day of Resurrection.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Pray for my forgiveness as well.’ So he said, ‘O Allah! Forgive the sins of Abdullah bin Qais and grant him an honorable place on the Day of Resurrection.’ Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘One supplication was made for Abu Amir and one supplication was made for Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with them both).’
