Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that upon facing any pain or hardship, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me this supplication: "There is no deity except Allah, He is Most Forbearing and Most Merciful. Allah is free from every defect and imperfection. The Being of Allah is greatly blessed, He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne, and all praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds."

Once, Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) came to visit Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) due to his illness. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Have you come with the intention of visiting the sick or just to meet? He replied: O Commander of the Faithful! I have come with the intention of visiting the sick. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that when a person visits his Muslim brother who is ill, seventy thousand angels pray for his forgiveness from morning till evening, and Allah Almighty creates a "khareef" for him in Paradise. We asked: O Commander of the Faithful! What is meant by "khareef"? He replied: It is a canal from which gardens are irrigated.

Zaid bin Wahb narrates that once a group of Khawarij from Basra came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), among them was a man named Ja'd bin Ba'jah. He said, "Ali! Fear Allah, you too will die one day." He (Ali) replied, "No, rather I will be martyred. It will be a single blow that will strike my head and color this beard. This is a settled matter and a decided thing, and the person who fabricates lies will be at loss." Then that man took out some insects from Sayyiduna Ali's (may Allah be pleased with him) garment, so he (Ali) said, "What concern do you have with my garment? It is far from arrogance and worthy that Muslims follow me in this matter."

Harith bin Abdullah A’war says that once I thought in my heart that tonight I must visit the Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and ask him about the matter which I heard from him yesterday. So, after ‘Isha prayer, I went to him. Then he mentioned the complete hadith and narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Jibreel came to me and said,“O Muhammad! Your ummah will fall into disagreements after you.”I asked,“O Jibreel! What is the way to safety from this?”He said,“The Noble Qur’an. Through it, Allah will destroy every oppressor. Whoever holds firmly to it will be saved, and whoever abandons it will be destroyed.”He said this twice. Then he said,“This Qur’an is a decisive word; it is not a thing of amusement. It does not become old on the tongues, its wonders never cease. In it are the stories of those before, the judgments for those in between, and the events that will happen after.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us at night and woke us up for prayer, then went to his own room and began to pray. After a long time had passed and he did not hear any movement from us, he came again and woke us up and said: "Stand up and pray." I sat up rubbing my eyes and said, "We can only pray that which has been written for us, and our souls are in Allah's possession; when He wants to wake us, He wakes us." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to me and went back. I listened carefully and heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) striking his hand on his thigh and saying, "We can only pray that which has been written for us. Man is indeed very argumentative."

Zaid bin Wahb narrates that when the Khawarij rebelled at Nahrawan, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stood among his companions and said: "These people have shed blood unjustly, have plundered people's animals, and they are your nearest enemies. Therefore, in my opinion, you should march towards your enemies. I fear that these people may attack you from behind. And I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that a group will appear in my Ummah whose prayers will seem insignificant compared to your prayers, whose fasts will seem insignificant compared to your fasts, whose recitation will seem insignificant compared to your recitation. They will recite the Qur'an thinking that they are earning reward from it, but it will be a cause of punishment for them, because the Qur'an will not go below their throats. They will go out of Islam just as an arrow passes through its prey. And their sign will be that among them there will be a man who will have an arm but no elbow, and on his hand there will be a mark like the nipple of a woman's breast, around which will be a cluster of white hairs. If any army that attacks them were to know the reward that has been promised about them by their Prophet, they would rely solely on that. Therefore, set out in the name of Allah." After this, the narrator mentioned the complete hadith.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah! We were with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) at the place of Juhfa when a delegation from the people of Syria came to him, among whom was Habib bin Maslamah Fahri. The mention of Hajj Tamattu' was brought up before Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: The completion of Hajj and Umrah is that both should not be combined in the months of Hajj. If you delay your Umrah and visit the House of Allah twice, then this is more virtuous, because Allah Almighty has placed ease and spaciousness in good deeds. At that time, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was in the valley feeding his camel. When he learned of what Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) had said, he came to him and said: Will you prevent people from a Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and from the concession which Allah has given His servants in the Qur'an, and thereby put them in hardship? Whereas for the needy person and for the one whose house is far, this ruling, i.e., Hajj Tamattu', still remains. After saying this, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) entered into the state of Ihram for both Hajj and Umrah (so that the permissibility of this would become clear to the people). Upon this, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came before the people and asked them: Have I prohibited Hajj Tamattu'? I have not prohibited it; it was merely an opinion which I suggested. Whoever wishes may accept it, and whoever wishes may leave it.

Mas'ud bin Hakm Ansari's mother says: It seems to me as if I can still see Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) before my eyes, riding on the white mule of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), during the Farewell Pilgrimage. He stopped by a group of the Ansar and said: O people! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: These are not days of fasting; rather, these are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance.
