It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a woman's husband was not present with her. She came to a man to buy something. He said to her, "Come into the storeroom, I will give you that thing." When the woman entered the storeroom, he kissed her and flirted with her. The woman said, "Alas! Even my husband is absent." Upon this, he let her go and regretted his action. Then he presented himself before Sayyiduna Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) and narrated the whole incident. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Alas! Perhaps her husband is not present because he is out in the path of Allah for jihad?" He replied in the affirmative. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Go to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and ask him about the solution to this issue." So he presented himself before Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked about this issue. He also said, "Perhaps her husband is not present because he is out in the path of Allah for jihad." Then, like Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he sent him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). That man presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and narrated the whole incident. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said, "Perhaps that woman's husband is not present?" And regarding this, the following verse of the Noble Qur'an was revealed: «﴿وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ذَلِكَ ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ﴾ [هود: 114] » "Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at some hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds erase bad deeds. That is a reminder for those who take heed." The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Is this command of the Noble Qur'an specifically for me or is it a general command for all people?" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) struck his chest and said, "Do not be so happy; this is a general command for all people." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Umar has spoken the truth."
