It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that regarding a mukatab (contracted slave) who has been set free (and someone kills him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave this ruling:“For the portion of the contract that he has paid, he will be given the blood money of a free man, and for the portion that remains unpaid, for which he is still a slave, the blood money of a slave will be given.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that in Madinah Munawwarah, two men used to dig graves. Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) would make a box-shaped grave as was the custom of the people of Makkah, and Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him)—whose real name was Zayd bin Sahl—would make a side niche grave for the people of Madinah. So Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) called two men, sent one to Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) and the other to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), and prayed, "O Allah! Choose for Your Prophet that which is better." Thus, the man who went to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) found him and brought him, and in this way, a side niche grave was prepared for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hajj is obligatory upon every Muslim who has the means. If I had said 'every year,' then performing Hajj every year would have become obligatory."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also performed Hajj Tamattu' until he passed away, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) also performed it until he passed away, Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both) also performed it until they too passed away. The first person to prohibit it was Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). I am astonished at his statement, while he himself narrated to me that he had trimmed the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) hair with scissors.

Syedna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud just as he used to teach us the Noble Qur’an, and he used to say: «التَّحِيَّاتُ الْمُبَارَكَاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلّٰهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ (قَالَ حُجَيْنٌ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ) أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللّٰهِ الصَّالِحِينَ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ» “All verbal, blessed, physical, and financial acts of worship are for Allah. O Prophet (peace and blessings be upon you)! May Allah’s peace, mercy, and blessings descend upon you. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. And I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah.”

Abu Nadrah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was present on the pulpit of the central mosque of Basra. I heard him saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge from four things after prayer and used to say: «أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَأَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ وَأَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ الْفِتَنِ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَأَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْأَعْوَرِ الْكَذَّابِ» "I seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave, I seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of Hell, I seek refuge with Allah from the trials of life and death, and I seek refuge with Allah from the trial of the false messiah, the one-eyed Dajjal, who will be a great liar."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) drew four lines on the ground and said: "Do you know what these lines are?" The people replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The most virtuous women among the women of Paradise will be four: (1) Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her), (2) Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), (3) Maryam bint Imran (peace be upon them), (4) Asiyah bint Muzahim (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Pharaoh."
