It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Protect yourselves even from minor sins, because sometimes many minor sins gather together and destroy a person." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave the example of those people who camped in a forest; when it was time to eat, one man went and brought a stick, another went and brought another stick, until many sticks were gathered, and they lit a fire and cooked whatever they had put in it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown different communities, and the arrival of his own community was delayed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then my community was shown to me, and I was greatly astonished at their large numbers, for they had filled every hill and mountain. It was said to me: 'This is your community, and with them are seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment.' These are the people who do not cauterize for treatment, do not seek ruqyah (incantations), do not take omens, and place their trust in their Lord." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna 'Ukasha bin Mihsan Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He includes me among them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him. Then another man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He includes me among them." It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that I reached Abu Jahl during the Battle of Badr and he was lying wounded, his leg had been cut off. I began to strike him with my sword, but the sword had no effect on him. I kept striking him with my sword until I killed him with it. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "Abu Jahl has been killed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did you see him yourself?" I replied, "Yes." This question and answer happened twice. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Come with me so that I may see as well." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to his corpse. Due to the heat of the sun, his corpse had begun to rot. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Drag him and his companions and throw them into the well," and after those in the well, curses were sent upon them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He was the Pharaoh of this Ummah."
