Umar bin Sa’d says that once his brother ‘Amir went out from Madinah Munawwarah to visit Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) at his goat farm. Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him:“Son! Do you want me to become the leader of rebellious activities? By Allah! It cannot happen that a sword is placed in my hand and I kill a believer with it and the news of it spreads, and if I kill a disbeliever with it, he too will attack because of it. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Allah loves the servant who is pious, self-sufficient, and keeps himself hidden.’”

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I saw two men on the day of the Battle of Uhud on the right and left of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who were wearing white clothes and were fighting fiercely. I had never seen them before nor after that.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I am amazed at the decree and decision of Allah regarding the believing servant: if any good comes to him, he gives thanks to his Lord, and if any calamity befalls him, he is patient with it seeking reward (and both gratitude and patience are beloved to Allah). The believer is rewarded for everything, even for the morsel that he lifts and puts into his wife’s mouth.”

Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once a son of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me a hadith from his father. I went to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him,“I have heard a hadith attributed to you, according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as the caliph over Madinah in his absence?”Upon hearing this, he became angry and said,“Who narrated this hadith to you?”I did not consider it appropriate to mention his son’s name. Then Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy over Madinah during the expedition of Tabuk and left him there, he (Ali) said:“O Messenger of Allah! My desire is that wherever you go, I should be with you.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Are you not pleased that your relation to me is like that of Harun (Aaron) to Musa (Moses), except that there is no prophethood after me?”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I never heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say about any living person that "he is a person of Paradise walking on the earth," except for Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) and other noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that in the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there were two brothers, one of whom was superior to the other. The superior one passed away first, and the other brother lived for forty more days after him, then he too died. When their mention was brought before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), people spoke of the first one being superior. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Did the second brother not perform prayers?”The people said:“Of course he did, but that does not make any difference.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Do you know how far his prayers have taken him?”Then he said:“The example of prayer is like that of a flowing river whose water is sweet and pure, and it flows at your doorstep, and you bathe in it five times a day. What do you think, would there remain any dirt on his body?”

Habib bin Abi Thabit says that once I had come to Madinah Munawwarah, and I received news from behind that a plague had broken out in Kufa. I asked people, "Who narrates the hadith on this subject here?" People mentioned the name of Amir bin Sa’d, but he was not present there at that time. Then I met Ibrahim bin Sa’d, and he narrated to me, on the authority of Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both), the narration of Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a plague spreads among a people, do not go there, and if you are already present in an area and a plague breaks out there, then do not leave from there." I asked Ibrahim, "Did you hear this narration directly from Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He replied in the affirmative.

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) once submitted in the court of the Messenger: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Allah has saved me from the polytheists today, so please give me this sword. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“This sword is neither yours nor mine, so put it down here.”So I put the sword down and went back, and I began to think in my heart that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give this sword to someone who had not faced a trial like mine. Meanwhile, I heard the voice of a man calling me from behind. I thought perhaps some command had been revealed about me? When I arrived there, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“You had asked me for this sword. Indeed, this sword was not mine, but now it has been given to me as a gift, so I give it to you.”After this, this verse was revealed: «﴿يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَنْفَالِ قُلِ الْأَنْفَالُ لِلّٰهِ وَالرَّسُولِ﴾ [الأنفال: 1] » O Beloved (peace and blessings be upon him)!“They ask you about the spoils of war. Say: The spoils of war belong to Allah and His Messenger.”
