Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) stated in his final will that my grave should be made in the lahd (niche) style, and raw bricks should be placed over it just as was done with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I said to Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I want to ask you about a hadith, but I feel afraid to ask you. He replied: Nephew! Do not do that. When you know that I have knowledge of something, then ask me freely and do not be afraid. I asked: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in Madinah Munawwarah as his deputy on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, what did he say to him? Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy in Madinah Munawwarah on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk and left him there, he (Ali) said: O Messenger of Allah! Will you leave me among children and women? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Are you not pleased that your relation to me is the same as that of Harun (peace be upon him) to Musa (peace be upon him) — except for Prophethood?”He (Ali) said: Why not, O Messenger of Allah! Upon this, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) quickly returned, and even today I feel the dust rising from his footsteps before my eyes.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It is a punishment that was sent upon the nations before you. Upon whom do the severest trials come? He replied:“Upon the Prophets (peace be upon them), then in order of rank upon the rest of the people. A person is tested according to the strength of his religion; if his religion is strong, his trials are increased, and if there is weakness in his religion, his trials are lightened. And trials continue to befall a person until, when he walks upon the earth, there remains no sin upon him.”

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I found myself to be the seventh among seven men with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (who had accepted Islam). At that time, we had nothing to eat except the branches and leaves of grapevines, and each one of us would pass stool like a goat passes stool, with nothing else mixed in it. And today, the people of Banu Asad reproach me for my Islam. If that is so, then I have suffered a great loss and all my efforts have been wasted.
