The most excellent of these branches is to bear witness that there is no deity except Allah. And the lowest branch is to remove something harmful from the path. And modesty is also a branch of faith.

In what condition did you begin your morning?" He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "I began my morning in the state of being a true believer." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, every statement has a reality. What is the reality of your statement?" He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon you)! Have I not restrained myself from the world? I kept myself awake at night and kept myself thirsty during the intense heat of the day. It is as if I am seeing the people of Paradise, that they are conversing with one another in Paradise, and it is as if I am seeing the people of Hell, that they are crying out in Hell." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have recognized (the truth)," or he said, "You have believed, so hold fast to it."

Hazrat Zubaid, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O Harith bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, in what state did you begin your morning? He, may Allah be pleased with him, replied: I began my morning in the state of being a true believer. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surely, every statement has a reality; what is the reality of your faith? He, may Allah be pleased with him, replied: I began my morning in such a state that my soul has turned away from the world, so I kept myself awake at night and kept myself thirsty during the day. It is as if I am looking at the Throne of my Lord, that it has appeared for reckoning. And it is as if I am looking at the people of Paradise, that they are conversing with one another in Paradise, and it is as if I am hearing the cries and screams of the people of Hell. The narrator says, then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: This is a servant whose heart has been filled with the light of faith. If you have recognized this, then hold fast to it.
