On Weeping from the Fear of Allah

٣٨٤١٠ - حدثنا ابن يمان عن سفيان قال: لا يفقه عبد حتى يعد البلاء نعمة، والرخاء مصيبة.
It is narrated from Hazrat Sufyan, may Allah have mercy on him, that a person cannot be considered a jurist until he regards hardship as a blessing and ease as a trial.

٣٨٤١١ - حدثنا يحيى بن يمان عن سفيان قال: كان يعجبهم ان يفرحوا انفسهم.
Hazrat Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that people used to find it strange that they would please their own souls.

٣٨٤١٢ - حدثنا زيد بن (الحباب) (١) (قال) (٢): حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان قال: سمعت مالك بن دينار يقول: قلب ليس فيه حزن مثل بيت خرب.

Hazrat Malik bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "A heart that has no sorrow is like a deserted house."

٣٨٤١٣ - حدثنا زيد بن (حباب) (١) (قال) (٢): حدثنا عبد الله بن (سميط) (٣) عن بديل بن ميسرة العقيلي او مطر الوراق انه قال: من عرف ربه احبه، ومن ابصر الدنيا زهد فيها، ولا يغفل (٤) المؤمن حتى يلهو، فإذا تفكر حزن.

Badeel bin Maisarah Aqili or Matar Al-Warraq, may Allah have mercy on him, says: Whoever recognizes his Lord begins to love Him, and whoever sees the world with the eye of the heart adopts abstinence from it. And a believer is not heedless as long as he does not engage in useless activities. When he reflects, he becomes sorrowful.

٣٨٤١٤ - حدثنا إسحاق بن سليمان الرازي عن ابي (سنان) (١) عن ابي حصين قال: (٢) مثل الذي يسلب اليتيم ويكسو الارملة مثل الذي (يكسبه) (٣) من غير حله وينفقه في غير حله.

(١) هو سعيد بن سنان الشيباني، وفي [ع]: (ستار)، وفي [ط]: (سيار)، وفي [هـ]: (سفيان).
(٢) في [جـ]: زيادة (إن).
(٣) في [أ، ب]: (يكسيه).
Hazrat Husain (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the person who snatches wealth from an orphan and gives it to a needy person is like the one who earns through unlawful means and spends in unlawful places.

٣٨٤١٥ - حدثنا ابو خالد الاحمر عن عمرو بن قيس قال: إن الله ليامر في اهل الارض بالعذاب فتقول الملائكة: يا رب فيهم الصبيان.
Hazrat Amr bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when Allah Almighty commands punishment for the inhabitants of the earth, the angels say, "O Allah! Among them are also children."

٣٨٤١٦ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن ثابت قال: كان يقول: ما اكثر احد ذكر الموت إلا (رؤي) (١) ذلك في عمله.

Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) says that whenever a person frequently remembers death, this is reflected in his actions.

٣٨٤١٧ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة قال: (كان) (١) ثابت يقول: اللهم إن كنت اعطيت احدا الصلاة في قبره فاعطني الصلاة في قبري.

Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pray: O Allah, if anyone is permitted to perform prayer in the grave, then grant me permission to perform prayer in my grave.

٣٨٤١٨ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة قال: اخبرنا حميد قال: كنا ناتي انسا ومعنا ثابت، فكلما مر بمسجد صلى فيه، فكنا ناتي انسا فيقول: (اين) (١) ثابت؟ (اين) (٢) ثابت؟ ((اين) (٣) ثابت) (٤)، (٥) (دويبة) (٦) احبها (٧).

Hazrat Humaid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we used to go to Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), and Thabit would also be with us. Whenever he passed by a mosque, he would pray in it. When we came to Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he would ask, "Where is Thabit? Where is Thabit? Where is Thabit? He is such a person whom I love."

٣٨٤١٩ - حدثنا عفان قال: حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن ابيه قال: قال انس: ولم يقل شهدته: إن لكل شيء مفتاحا، وإن ثابتا من مفاتيح الخير (١).

(١) مجهول؛ لجهالة زيد بن درهم والد حماد، أخرجه أبو القاسم البغوي في الجعديات (١٣٧٨)، والبخاري في التاريخ ٢/ ١٥٩، وأبو نعيم في الحلية ٢/ ٣١٨، وابن سعد ٧/ ٢٣٢، وأحمد في الزهد ١/ ٢٥٣، والخرائطي في المنتقى من مكارم الأخلاق (٢٩٤).
Hazrat Hammad narrates from his father that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said (but he did not say that I was also present) that everything has a key, and the key to goodness is steadfastness.
