It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The chiefs of Quraysh gathered in Hatim and made a pact to kill the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, went to them, and threw a handful of dust upon them. He said: "May the faces be disfigured." Then, whoever the dust fell upon was killed as a disbeliever on the day of Badr.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him): Badr was a commercial fair in the time of ignorance. The brave advanced, the cowardly stayed behind. Allah Almighty revealed this verse: «الَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ النَّاسُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا لَكُمْ» .
