If a Man Forgets to Say Bismillah When Releasing a Hunting Animal but Says It Before the Animal Dies, What Is the Ruling?

٢٠٧٦٥ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا جرير عن مغيرة عن حماد إبراهيم قال: إذا رميت بالسهم ولم تسم، فذوت قبل ان (يقتل) (١) الصيد، ثم سميت ثم قتله فكل، والكلب مثل ذلك.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that when you throw an arrow towards the game and do not say Bismillah, and before the game is killed you remember and recite Bismillah, then if the game dies, eat it. The same ruling applies to a dog.

٢٠٧٦٦ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا ابو اسامة عن هشام عن الحسن قال: إذا انفلت الكلب، وصاحبه لا يشعر، فقال بعد ما يطلب الكلب الصيد: بسم الله، فاصاد الكلب فلياكل.
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a dog chases the prey without the owner's knowledge, and after finding the dog's prey, the hunter recites "Bismillah" and then the dog hunts, he may eat it.

٢٠٧٦٧ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا حميد بن عبد الرحمن عن زهير عن جابر عن عامر قال: إذا ارسلت كلبك او سهمك فنسيت ان تسمي -اي حين ترسله- ثم سميت قبل ان (تاخذه) (١) فلا تاكل، حتى (تسمي) (٢) حين ترسله.

Hazrat Aamir (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when you send your dog or arrow towards the prey and at that time you forget to say Bismillah, then later when that arrow or dog reaches the prey, you cannot eat that prey. This is because it is necessary that you say Bismillah at the time of sending it.

٢٠٧٦٨ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا عبد الاعلى عن يونس عن الحسن انه قال في رجل رمى ونسي ان يذكر اسم الله قال: كان لا يرى به باسا.
Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said that if a person forgets to mention the name of Allah while shooting an arrow, there is no harm in it.

Hazrat Ibn Harmalah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that if I forget to say the name of Allah while throwing my stone towards the prey, what is the ruling? He replied: Recite Bismillah and eat it.

٢٠٧٧٠ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا عبد الاعلى عن يونس عن الحسن في رجل ارسل كلبه على صيد (فياخذ) (١) غيره قال: لا باس به.

٢٠٧٧١ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا حفص عن حجاج عن عطاء قال: سالته عن الرجل يرمي الصيد فيصيب غيره قال: ياكل.
Hazrat Hajjaj (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I asked Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) if a man shoots an arrow at a game animal and it hits another animal, what is the ruling? He replied that he may eat it.

٢٠٧٧٤ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا شريك عن جابر عن عامر في (الرجل) (١) يرمي الصيد ولا (يتعمد) (٢) فيصيب احدهما قال: ياكل إذا ذكر اسم الله (٣).

Hazrat Aamir (may Allah have mercy on him) says that if a person shoots an arrow towards the game without aiming at any specific animal, and it hits one of them, then he can eat it, provided that he recited Bismillah at the time of releasing it.
