Hazrat Kulthum says that Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: I do not like that I should shoot even a single arrow at Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) with the intention of killing him, even if in return I were to receive gold equal to the mountain of Uhud.

Hazrat Hassan bin Atiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): May Allah forgive your sins which you have committed earlier and which you will commit later, and those which you have committed in secret and those which you have committed openly, and those which you have concealed and those which you have revealed, and whatever you will do until the Day of Judgment.

Hazrat Muhammad bin Hatib, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that when Hazrat Uthman, may Allah have mercy on him, was mentioned, Hazrat Hasan bin Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Commander of the Faithful will come to you soon, and he himself will tell you about him. The narrator says: Then Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, arrived and said: Hazrat Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, was among those people. Then he recited this verse in full. Translation: Those people remained steadfast in faith and did good deeds, then abstained from forbidden things and accepted the commands of Allah, then adopted piety and did good deeds. And Allah loves those who do good deeds.

Hazrat Nafi’ bin Harith (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered one of the gardens of Madinah and said to me:“Close the door for me.”Then he (peace be upon him) came and sat on the edge built around the well and let his legs hang into the well. Then the door was knocked, so I asked:“Who is it?”He said:“Abu Bakr.”I said:“O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon you)! It is Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).”So he (peace be upon him) said:“Let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise.”So he came and sat on the edge of the well with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he (may Allah be pleased with him) also let his legs hang into the well. Then the door was knocked. I asked:“Who is it?”He said:“Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).”I said:“O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon you)! It is Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).”So he (peace be upon him) said:“Let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise.”The narrator says: I gave him permission to enter and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. So he came and sat on the edge of the well with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he (may Allah be pleased with him) also let his legs hang into the well. Then the door was knocked. I asked:“Who is it?”He said:“Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).”I said:“O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon you)! It is Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).”He (peace be upon him) said:“Let him in and give him glad tidings of Paradise—with a trial.”The narrator says: I gave him permission to enter and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. So he entered and sat on the edge of the well with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and let his legs hang into the well.

Hazrat Sufyan bin Husain (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) offered his daughter's hand in marriage to Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not guide you to someone better than Uthman? And shall I not guide Uthman to a woman better than this woman? The narrator says: Thus, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself married the daughter of Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and arranged the marriage of Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to his own daughter.

Hazrat Asim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when Hazrat Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) was mentioned about Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), a man said, "Indeed, people abuse him!" Upon this, he (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Destruction is for those people who abuse such a person who entered upon the king Najashi among a group of the companions of Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم , while all others besides him fell into trial!" People asked: "What trial did those people fall into?" He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Whoever entered upon that king would bow his head and greet him. But Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) refused to do so, so the king asked: 'What prevented you from prostrating as your companions have prostrated?' He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: 'I do not prostrate to anyone except Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.'"

Hazrat Zir bin Hubaish (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By the One Who split the grain and created the human being, surely the unlettered Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم made a covenant with me that only a sincere believer will love me, and only a hypocrite will harbor enmity towards me.

Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever I am a friend to, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is also his friend."

Hazrat Umm Musa narrates that Hazrat Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I swear that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the closest to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) among the people in terms of covenant. She says: We were visiting the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day he passed away in the house of Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeatedly asking every little while in the morning, "Has Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) come?" She says: I thought that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent him on some errand. Then, after a little while, he came, and we felt that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had some task with him, so we left the house and sat by the door. Among all of us, I was the closest to the door. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) towards himself and kept whispering to him. Then, on that very day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. Thus, he (Ali, may Allah be pleased with him) was the closest to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in terms of covenant.

Hazrat Sa’d bin Ubaidah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man asked Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both):“Tell me about Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).”He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied:“Whenever you wish to ask about Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), just look at the house near the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). This is his house and this is the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”The man said:“I have enmity towards him!”He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied:“Then Allah also has enmity towards you.”
