It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra), I passed by some people whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire." I said: "O Jibril! Who are these people?" He said: "These are the preachers of your Ummah who command others to do good but forget their own selves, while they recite the Book. Do they not then understand?"

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are now in a time in which scholars are many and preachers are few. In such a time, whoever does not act even upon a tenth of his knowledge will be destroyed. But soon there will come a time upon the people in which scholars will be few and preachers will be many. In that time, whoever acts even upon a tenth of his knowledge will attain salvation."

Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him) says that someone said to Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him): "Will you not go and speak to this man, meaning Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He replied: "Do you think that whenever I speak to him, I will make you hear it? By Allah! Without announcing anything, I have spoken to him, and in that gathering, only he and I were present. I do not like to be the first to announce such matters." After hearing this hadith, I will not say about any person that he is the best among the people, even if he is my leader. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and he will be thrown into the Fire. His intestines will come out and he will begin to circle around them in Hell as a donkey circles around a millstone. Seeing his condition, the people of Hell will gather around him and say: 'Did you not used to command us to do good and forbid us from evil?' He will say: 'Yes, I used to command you to do good but I did not do it myself, and I used to forbid you from evil but I used to commit it myself.'"

Aban bin Uthman (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) came out from Marwan around midday. We said: He must have called him at this time to ask about something. So I got up and went to him and asked him about this. Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Yes, he asked me about such things that I had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah keep fresh and flourishing the person who hears a hadith from us, then remembers it, until he conveys it to others. Not all carriers of fiqh are themselves jurists, and many carriers of fiqh convey it to someone more learned than themselves. If three things are present, a Muslim's heart does not betray: first, to act sincerely for Allah Almighty; second, to have goodwill for the rulers; and third, to adhere to the community, for the supplication of the believers encompasses them from behind." Also, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever's concern and worry is the Hereafter, Allah gathers his affairs for him and places richness in his heart, and the world comes to him humbled. But whoever's intention and resolve is only for the world, Allah increases his distractions and places poverty before his eyes, and he only gets from the world what is written for him in his destiny." He (Marwan) asked us about the middle prayer; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is Zuhr (noon prayer)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood in the valley of Khayf in Mina and said:“May Allah keep fresh and flourishing that servant who heard my words, then remembered them and conveyed them to the one who had not heard them. For many carriers of jurisprudence (fiqh) are such that they themselves do not possess understanding, and many carriers of jurisprudence convey it to those who are more understanding than themselves. If these three things are present, the heart of a believer does not betray: sincerity in action, goodwill towards the rulers, and adhering to the congregation. Indeed, their supplication is behind him.”
