Umar bin Yahya narrates from his father or uncle, who says: I had hair that reached my shoulders, so when I performed prostration, I would lift them up. Abu Hasan Mazni saw me doing this and said: Do you lift them so that they do not get dirt on them? By Allah! I will surely shave them off. Then he shaved that hair.

Sayyar bin Ma’rur says: I heard Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivering a sermon, and he was saying: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) built this mosque, while we, the Muhajirun and Ansar, were with him (peace and blessings be upon him). So when the crowd becomes large, a person should prostrate on the back of his brother. Then Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw some people praying on the road and said to them: Pray in the mosque.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Companions complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that if they spread out (in prostration), it becomes difficult for them in sujood. Ibn ‘Ajlan says: Its manner is that when the prostration becomes lengthy and a person becomes tired, he should rest his elbows on his knees.
