Al-Fath al-Rabbani
بَابُ أَحَبِّ الْأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Chapter on the Most Beloved Names to Allah the Exalted and to His Messenger (peace be upon him)
Hadith Number: 4746
عن خيثمة بن عبد الرحمن بن ابي سبرة ان اباه عبد الرحمن ذهب مع جده إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم فقال له رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ما اسم ابنك قال عزيز فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم لا تسمه عزيزا ولكن سمه عبد الرحمن ثم قال إن خير الاسماء وفي لفظ إن من خير اسمائكم عبد الله وعبد الرحمن والحارث
It is narrated from Haisamah bin Abdur Rahman bin Abi Sabrah that his father, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him), went with his grandfather to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What is your son's name?" He replied: "Aziz." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not name him Aziz, rather name him Abdur Rahman." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Abdullah, Abdur Rahman, and Harith are the best of names."

Hadith Number: 4747
عن سبرة بن ابي سبرة عن ابيه رضي الله عنه انه اتى النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال ما ولدك قال فلان وفلان وعبد العزى فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم هو عبد الرحمن إن احق اسمائكم او من خير اسمائكم إن سميتم عبد الله وعبد الرحمن والحارث
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he went to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What are the names of your children?" He said: "So-and-so, so-and-so, and Abd al-Uzza." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is Abd al-Rahman (not Abd al-Uzza). If you wish to name (your children), then the best names are Abdullah, Abd al-Rahman, and Harith."

Section on Encouragement to Beautify the Name and What Has Been Reported Regarding the Names of Some Angels
Hadith Number: 4748
عن ابي الدرداء رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إنكم تدعون يوم القيامة باسمائكم واسماء آبائكم فحسنوا اسماءكم
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Surely, on the Day of Resurrection you will be called by your names and the names of your fathers, so keep good names for yourselves.

Hadith Number: 4749
عن محمد بن عمرو بن عطاء قال قال لي علي بن حسين رضي الله عنهما اسم جبريل عليه السلام عبد الله واسم ميكائيل عليه السلام عبيد الله
Muhammad bin Amr bin Ata says: Ali bin Hussain, may Allah have mercy on him, said to me: The name of Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be upon him, is Abdullah, and the name of Mikaeel (Michael), peace be upon him, is Ubaidullah.

Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Naming with Muhammad and the Dislike of Combining His Name (peace be upon him)

عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال لا تجمعوا بين اسمي وكنيتي فإني انا ابو القاسم الله عز وجل يعطي وانا اقسم
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not combine my name and my kunyah, for indeed I am Abu al-Qasim; Allah grants and I distribute.

Hadith Number: 4751
عن انس رضي الله عنه ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم كان بالبقيع فنادى رجل يا ابا القاسم فالتفت إليه فقال لم اعنك قال تسموا باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was in Baqi‘ when a man called out: "O Abu al-Qasim!" When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) turned towards him, the man said: "I did not mean you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "Take my name, but do not take my kunya."

عن جابر بن عبد الله الانصاري رضي الله عنهما ان رجلا من الانصار ولد له غلام فاراد ان يسميه محمدا فاتى النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم فساله فقال احسنت الانصار تسموا باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that a boy was born to an Ansari. He wanted to name him Muhammad, so he came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Ansar have done well; name him with my name, but do not use my kunya.

عن جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما قال ولد لرجل منا غلام فاسماه القاسم فقلنا لا نكنيك ابا القاسم ولا ننعمك عينا فاتى النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم فذكر ذلك له فقال اسم ابنك عبد الرحمن
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: A child was born to one of us, he named him Qasim. We said to him: We will not give you the kunyah (patronymic) Abu al-Qasim, nor will we thus cool your eyes. So he went to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of this matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Name your son Abdur Rahman.

عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم تسموا بي وفي لفظ باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي انا ابو القاسم
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Name yourselves after me, but do not take my kunya. I am Abu al-Qasim.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever names (his child) after my name, should not take my kunya, and whoever takes my kunya, should not take my name.
