Hadith Number: 6500
Abu Sa’ib says: I came to Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and was sitting with him when I felt something moving under his bed. I saw that it was a snake, so I stood up. Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What is the matter? I said: There is a snake here. He said: What do you intend to do? I said: To kill it. He pointed towards a house in front of his own and said: My nephew used to live in that house. When he returned from the Battle of Ahzab, he sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to go to his house. He had recently gotten married. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission and instructed him to go armed. When he came to his house, he saw his wife standing at the door. Out of jealousy, he pointed his spear towards her, but she said: Do not be hasty, first see what made me come out. When he entered the house, he saw a repulsive kind of snake. The young man struck it with his spear and tried to drag it out with the spear. The snake was writhing. I do not know whether the man died first or the snake. Then the people of his tribe came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Pray to Allah to return our companion to us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said twice: Seek forgiveness for your companion. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some individuals from among the jinn have accepted Islam. When you see them, warn them three times, that is, for three days. If they still appear after three days, then if you wish to kill them, you may do so.

(Second Chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that a man saw a snake in his house and he pierced it with a spear, but the snake did not die, until that man himself passed away. When the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was informed of this incident, he said: Among you, there are also jinn inhabiting the houses, so when you see any of them, create difficulty for them for three days. If you still see them after three days, then kill them.

What do you do with this spear? She said: We kill these lizards with it, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that when Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, every animal on the face of the earth tried to extinguish the fire, except for this lizard, which blew on the fire. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to kill it.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: I kept waiting for you according to your promise. Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) said: There is a dog in the house, and we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. In fact, there was a puppy under the bed of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered it to be taken out, so it was taken out. Then, when morning came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs, and they began to be killed.

Mawla of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: O Abu Rafi’! Kill every dog in Madinah. He says: I found some Ansari women at a place called Surain near Baqi’, and they had a dog with them. They said: O Abu Rafi’! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) has sent our men to war, and after Allah, this dog protects us. By Allah! Because of the fear of this dog, no man dares to come near us until one of us gets up and drives the dog away. Go and inform the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) of all this. So Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) informed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) of what they had said, but he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: O Abu Rafi’! Kill that dog; Allah, the Exalted, Himself will protect those women.
