Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to a garbage heap and urinated while standing. I came close to him until I stood behind him. I poured water for him, so he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks.

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he came to a garbage heap and stood there to urinate. I started to move away, but he called me and said, "Come closer." I came closer and stood behind him. Then he performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks.

Abu Wa'il narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) used to be extremely strict regarding the matter of urine. He used to say: If any person from the Children of Israel got urine on his skin, he would cut it off with scissors. Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I wished that your companion (i.e., Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him) would not be so strict in this matter, because I remember this about myself: I and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) were walking together. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to a garbage heap behind a garden and stood in the way that any one of you would stand. He urinated. The narrator says: I made a screen for him, so he gestured towards me. I moved forward and stood behind him until he finished.

Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Whoever tells you that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to urinate standing up, then declare him a liar, because I always saw him urinating while sitting. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration has caused confusion for the one who does not have expertise in the knowledge of hadith, and he thought that it contradicts the narration transmitted from Sayyiduna Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him), which we have mentioned earlier. However, this is not the case, because Sayyiduna Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) urinating by a wall near a heap of garbage, and this was at the outskirts of Madinah Munawwarah, and we have already explained the reason for this action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was not with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at that time. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) urinating while sitting at home, so she narrated what she had seen, but Sayyiduna Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated what he had seen. Therefore, Lady Aisha’s (may Allah be pleased with her) statement, "declare him a liar," means that you should consider him mistaken, because sometimes the Arabs use the word "lie" (kathib) to mean "mistake."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am to you like a father; I teach and train you. When you go to relieve yourselves, do not face the Qiblah nor turn your back towards it, and no person should clean himself with his right hand." (The narrator states) The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command the use of three stones for cleaning and forbade cleaning with dung or bones.

Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I asked Alqamah,“Was Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the night when he met the jinn?”Alqamah replied,“I had asked Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) this question. I asked, ‘On the night when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met the jinn, was any of you with him?’ He replied, ‘No, we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one night. We found him absent. We searched for him in the valleys and lowlands. We thought perhaps he had been secretly or deceitfully martyred.’ The narrator says: ‘That night was as if a people had spent the worst night ever.’ When morning came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came from the direction of the Cave of Hira. The narrator says: ‘We said, O Messenger of Allah! We found you absent. We searched for you but could not find you, so we spent the night as a people would spend the worst night in the worst condition.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘A messenger from the jinn came to me, so I went with him. I recited the Qur’an to them.’ The narrator says: ‘Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took us with him and showed us the traces of their fire. They requested provisions from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: Every bone upon which Allah’s name has been mentioned, when it comes into your hands, it will have more meat on it than before, and every dung will be fodder for your animals.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to us): ‘Do not use bones or dung for istinja (cleaning after relieving oneself), for these are the food of your jinn brothers.’

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade that a man should touch his private part with his right hand.

Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah reports: My father told me this. He heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say: "When any person urinates, he should not touch his private part with his right hand, nor should he clean himself with his right hand."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade cleaning oneself after relieving oneself with the right hand.

Sayyiduna Salamah bin Qais Ashja’i, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said:“When you perform ablution, put water into your nose, and when you use stones (for istinja), use an odd number.”
