Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The distance between the two sides of my cistern is as much as the distance between Sana'a and Madinah."

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I will go ahead of you as your forerunner. If you do not find me, then I will be present at the Hawd (Pond of Kawthar), which is as large as the distance from Aylah to Makkah. Soon, some men and women will come carrying bowls and water skins, but they will not be able to taste anything from this pond." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Soon, some men and some women will come carrying bowls and water skins, and then they will not be able to taste anything from it. By this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant that people belonging to other nations will come, whose forgiveness has already taken place. They will bring bowls so that they may drink from this pond, but they will not be able to drink from it because this pond is reserved for this Ummah. It is not for other nations. It is impossible for any disbeliever or hypocrite to be able to obtain bowls and water skins on the Day of Resurrection, because such people will be driven towards Hell on the Day of Resurrection. We seek Allah's refuge from Hell.

Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abdus Salmi رضي الله عنه narrates: A Bedouin stood before the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. He asked: How large is the Hawd (Pond) about which you صلى الله عليه وسلم are speaking? The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied: It is as large as the distance between Sana’a and Busra. Then Allah Almighty will increase its depth for me, and no one knows what it is made from and where its other edge is. The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Umar رضي الله عنه said Takbeer. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: As for the Hawd, there will be a crowd of poor emigrants upon it, those who were martyred in the way of Allah and those who passed away striving in the way of Allah. I hope that Allah Almighty will take me to it, and I will drink from it.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The distance between the two banks of my Hawd (Pond) is as much as the distance between Madinah and Sana'a (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps the words are:) between Madinah and Oman."

(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) These four narrations can confuse a person who does not have expertise in the science of hadith (and he may think) that there is contradiction or difference among them. In the narrations transmitted by Sulaiman Taymi, the words are: as much as the distance between Sana'a and Madinah. In the narration transmitted from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), the words are: as much as the distance from Eila to Makkah. In the narration transmitted by Utbah bin Abd, the words are: as much as the distance between Sana'a and Busra. In the narration transmitted by Qatadah, the words are: as much as the distance between Madinah and Oman. However, there is no contradiction or difference in these narrations, because these are answers to questions, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned them according to the questions. The narrations we have mentioned, in all of them, refer to one of the banks of the Hawd al-Kawthar, that each side of this Hawd is as much as a month's journey. So, from Sana'a to Madinah Munawwarah is as much as a month's journey, provided a person is not traveling at a fast pace. The journey from Eila to Makkah is also the same. The journey from Sana'a to Busra is also the same. And the distance from Madinah to Oman or Shaam is also the same.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Ahead of you (on the Day of Resurrection) there will be a cistern as large as the distance between Jarba and Adhrah." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The distance between Jarba and Adhrah is as much as between Madinah and Oman, or between Makkah and Aylah, or between Sana'a and Madinah, or between Sana'a and Busra, so in this regard there is no contradiction or difference in these narrations.

Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I will stand by my Hawd (cistern) and drive some people away from it. I will strike them with my staff so that they move back." The narrator states: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the width of this Hawd, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is from my place here to (the distance of) Oman. The distance between the two is about a month’s journey or a little less." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the drink of this Hawd, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I will stand near my Hawd (cistern) and will drive away some people of Yemen from it. I will strike them with my staff so that they move back." (The narrator states) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the width of this Hawd, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From where I am standing to Oman (the distance is as wide as that)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about its drink, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Its drink will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. This Hawd will have two channels coming from Paradise. One of them will be made of gold and the other of silver." The narrator named Bandar says: I said to Yahya bin Hammad: Is this the narration transmitted by Abu Awanah? He replied: I heard this narration from Abu Awanah himself. Hadith Number: 6457
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Yazid bin Akhnas (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is the width of your Hawd (cistern)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: As much as the distance between Aden and Oman, and it has two spouts, made of gold and silver. He asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What will be the drink of your Hawd like? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: It will be whiter than milk, sweeter than honey in taste, and its fragrance will be purer than musk. Whoever drinks from it will never feel thirsty again, and his face will never become dark.

(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) In this narration, it is mentioned that its two spouts are made of gold and silver, whereas in the narration we mentioned from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), it is mentioned that its two spouts are made, one of pearl and one of gold. So, there is no contradiction between these two narrations, because one of the two spouts will be made of gold, and as for the other, it is possible that it is made of silver and adorned with pearls. In this way, there remains no contradiction between the two narrations.
