Muhammad bin Ka'b narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who is there who will kill Khalid bin Nubaikh for me?" This man belonged to the tribe of Hudhail and in those days he was residing at the place of 'Urnah, towards 'Arafah. Abdullah bin Unais (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I (will kill him), you describe his features (so that I may recognize him)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you see him, you will be frightened." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! By the One Who has sent you with the truth, I have never been frightened by anything (till today)." The narrator says: In any case, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais (may Allah be pleased with him) set out and reached the mountains of 'Arafah before sunset. Abdullah bin Unais (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I met a man there, and when I saw him, I was overawed. When I became frightened of him, I realized that this was the sign which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had indicated. He said to me: "Who are you?" I said: "A needy person, is there a place to spend the night?" He said: "Yes, come." I followed him. I quickly performed two rak'ahs of 'Asr prayer, but I kept fearing that he might see me (while I was praying). Then I met him and struck him with the sword and killed him. Then I left from there and went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the incident. Muhammad bin Ka'b says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him a staff and said: "Keep this staff in your hand until you meet me, and there are few people who hold a staff." Muhammad bin Ka'b says: When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais (may Allah be pleased with him) was about to die, he instructed regarding the staff, so it was placed on his stomach and over his shroud, and then it was buried with him.

Amr bin Salamah al-Hamdani says: We used to sit at the door of Abdullah bin Mas’ud’s (may Allah be pleased with him) house before the Fajr prayer. When he came out, we would walk with him towards the mosque. One day, Abu Musa al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us and asked: Has Abu Abdur-Rahman (Ibn Mas’ud) not come to you yet? We said: No. He also sat with us. (We kept waiting) until Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived. When he came, we stood up towards him. Abu Musa said to him: Abu Abdur-Rahman! Just now I saw something in the mosque that amazed me, but by the grace of Allah, it seems to be a form of goodness. He asked: What is it? Abu Musa said: If you live, you will see it yourself. I saw people sitting in circles waiting for prayer, with pebbles in front of them. In each circle, a (specific) man says: Say“Allahu Akbar”a hundred times. Upon hearing this, the people in the circle say“Allahu Akbar”a hundred times. Then he says: Say“Subhan Allah”a hundred times. Upon hearing this, they say“Subhan Allah”a hundred times. He asked: What did you say to them about this action? Abu Musa said: I did not say anything, waiting for your opinion. He said: Why did you not tell them to count their sins (instead of such good deeds), and why did you not guarantee that none of their good deeds would ever be wasted (but only if they are truly good deeds)? Then he set off, and we went with him. He went to one of the circles, stood by them, and said: What are you people doing? They said: O Abu Abdur-Rahman! These are pebbles, and we are counting takbirs, tahlils, and tasbihs with them. He said: Consider such (good deeds) as sins. I guarantee that none of your good deeds will be wasted (provided) it is a good deed. O Ummah of Muhammad! May you perish, you have hastened to your destruction. The companions of the Messenger are still present in large numbers among you, the clothes of your Prophet have not yet worn out, nor have his vessels broken (meaning the time of the Prophet’s death is still near). By the One in Whose hand is my soul! Have you adopted a religion better than that of Muhammad (peace be upon him), or are you opening the door of misguidance and deviation? They said: O Abu Abdur-Rahman! Our intention was only to do good. He said: How many people intend to do good, but do not reach it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) told us this hadith:“Some people will recite the Qur’an, but its recitation will not go below their throats (into their hearts). They will leave the religion (become alien to it) as an arrow passes through its prey.”By Allah! I do not understand, perhaps most of you are among those (meant in this hadith). Then he left from there. Amr bin Salamah says: We saw most of those people of the circles fighting against us with the Khawarij on the day of Nahrawan.

Sayyiduna Zumrah bin Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing two fine Yemeni garments. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Zumrah! What do you think, will these clothes admit you into Paradise?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! If you seek forgiveness for me, I will take them off before sitting down. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "O Allah! Forgive Zumrah bin Tha'labah." (Upon hearing this supplication) he quickly took off the clothes.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Humayd or Sayyiduna Abu Usaid (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear a hadith attributed to me, (then see) whether your hearts are familiar with it, and your hair and skin become soft for it, and you see that you yourselves could also say such a thing, then I am even more deserving of having said it. But if you see that the hadith attributed to me is being rejected by your hearts, and your hair and skin feel aversion to it, and you see that you yourselves could not say such a thing, then I am the farthest from it."

Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding his mule in a garden of Banu Najjar. Suddenly, the mule shied and it was close that you (peace be upon him) would fall. According to the narrator of the hadith, Jarir, there were, in his doubt, four or five or six graves there. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“Who knows the people of these graves?”A man said: I know. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked:“When did these people die?”He said: In the state of shirk (polytheism). (Upon hearing this) the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“(The human) Ummah is tested in their graves, and if I did not fear that you would stop burying (your dead), I would have prayed to Allah that He make you hear the punishment of the grave that I hear.”Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) turned towards us and said:“Seek Allah’s protection from the punishment of the Fire.”We said: We seek Allah’s protection from the punishment of the Fire. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said:“Seek Allah’s protection from the punishment of the grave.”We said: We seek Allah’s protection from the punishment of the grave. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said:“Seek Allah’s protection from the apparent and hidden trials.”We said: We seek Allah’s protection from the apparent and hidden trials. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said:“Seek Allah’s protection from the trial of Dajjal.”We said: We seek Allah’s protection from the trial of Dajjal.

Sayyiduna Miqdam bin Ma’dikarib al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“I have been given a (divine) Book and another thing equal to it, that is, something like it (in addition). Soon, a satiated man reclining on his couch may say: ‘This (divine) Book is sufficient between us and you. Whatever is declared lawful in it, we will consider lawful, and whatever is declared unlawful in it, we will consider unlawful.’ Beware! The matter is not like that. Listen! The carnivorous beast with fangs is not lawful, nor is the domestic donkey, nor is the lost property of a dhimmi (non-Muslim under Muslim protection), unless its owner has given up hope of it. And whoever becomes a guest of a people, and they do not host him, then it is permissible for him to take from them the amount of hospitality due to him.”

The trial is here (he said this two or three times), from here the edge of the head of Satan will emerge." While saying this, he pointed towards the east or Iraq.
