It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man's prayer with the congregation is twenty-five degrees superior to his prayer alone, and if he is in a deserted wilderness and performs ablution, bowing, and prostration in a complete manner, then his prayer reaches up to fifty degrees."

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Your Lord is amazed at the shepherd who is on the top of a mountain herding his goats, and he gives the call to prayer (adhan) and performs the prayer. Allah Almighty says to the angels: Look at My servant, he is giving the adhan and establishing the prayer, he fears Me. I have forgiven My servant and admitted him to Paradise."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, Allah will build a house for him in Paradise."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever builds a mosque, not desiring show or fame, Allah Almighty will build a house for him in Paradise."

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Construct it like the hut of Musa (peace be upon him)." This hadith has been narrated mursal by Hasan al-Basri, Salim bin Atiyyah, Zuhri, and Rashid bin Sa'd, and has been narrated mawsool from Sayyiduna Abu Darda and Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with them).

Saeed bin Abu Saeed reports mursal that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you begin to adorn the mosques and beautify the copies of the Qur'an, then destruction and ruin will befall you."

Urwah bin Zubair narrates from a Companion of the Messenger that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command us to build mosques in our neighborhoods in a good manner and to keep them clean and pure.

Salim narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not make the mosques as pathways; they are only for the remembrance of Allah or for prayer."

Makhul, the Tabi'i, narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade urinating around the doors of the mosques.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Taliq bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as a delegation, we pledged allegiance to him, prayed with him, and informed him that in our land there is a church of ours. (Since we want to build a mosque there,) we requested from you the leftover water from your ablution. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called for water, performed ablution, rinsed his mouth, and put it in a vessel, then instructed us: "Go, when you reach your area, demolish the church, sprinkle this water there, and build a mosque there." They said: Our area is very far and it is extremely hot, this water will dry up? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "(On the way) keep adding more water to it, it will only increase its purity." We set out until we reached our area, we demolished the church, sprinkled the water there, and turned it into a mosque, then we gave the call to prayer there. A priest from the tribe of Banu Tai heard the call to prayer and said: This is indeed the call to truth. Then he went towards a hill and after that incident, we did not see him again.
