Sayyiduna Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I performed the Asr prayer in Madinah behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he finished the prayer with salam, he quickly stood up and, stepping over the people's necks, entered the house of one of his wives. The people were surprised at his haste. (Meanwhile) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned and saw that the people were astonished at his quickness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "While I was praying, I remembered a piece of (gold or silver) zakat that was with us. I disliked that it should keep me (and in another narration: that it should remain with us till the evening or spend the night with us), so I have just ordered it to be distributed."

Gate of charity in Paradise for givers
Numbering by, Al-Albani: 2879, Fiqh-based: ,926
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever spends a pair of anything in the way of Allah, he will be called from the gates of Paradise: O servant of Allah, this gate is better (for you). So whoever is among those who pray will be called from the 'Gate of Prayer' (Bab al-Salat); whoever is among the warriors (mujahideen) will be called from the 'Gate of Jihad' (Bab al-Jihad); whoever is among those who give charity will be called from the 'Gate of Charity' (Bab al-Sadaqah); and whoever is among those who fast will be called from the 'Gate of Rayyan' (Bab al-Rayyan)."
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Whoever is called from any one of these gates will have no loss or harm (because the objective is entry into Paradise), but will there be anyone who will be called from all these gates? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Yes, and I hope that you will be among them."

Ubaydullah bin Abbas says that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: "My nephew! I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I was holding his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Abu Dharr! If I were to receive gold or silver equal to Mount Uhud, I would spend it in the way of Allah, and on whichever day I die, I would not wish that even a qirat of it remains with me.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! (What are you saying) a qintar?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Abu Dharr! I am inclined towards little and you towards much? I desire the Hereafter and you desire the world? (I am saying:) qirat.' These words were repeated three times."

Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I brought a necklace to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which contained seventy (70) mithqal of gold. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Take from it the obligatory portion (zakat) prescribed by Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took one and three-quarters mithqal and returned the rest. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Take the portion that Allah Almighty has prescribed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed that wealth among those six categories and others besides them, and said:“Fatimah! Indeed, Allah the Exalted has not left anything for you.”I said: O Messenger of Allah! I will be pleased with that which Allah Almighty and His Messenger are pleased with.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to go on a military expedition and said: "O Muhajirun and Ansar! Some of your brothers have neither wealth nor relatives with them. Some of you should take two or three of them along with yourselves." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: None of us had a mount of our own; rather, just as it was their turn, so too did we have a turn to ride. I took two or three individuals along with me. He says: Just as it was their turn, so too did I have a turn to ride my camel (that is, the camel was mine, but everyone’s turns were equal).

Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever the sun rises, there are two angels on its both sides. They call out to the inhabitants of the earth, except for jinn and mankind, so that they can hear: 'O people! Come to your Lord. Indeed, a small amount of wealth that suffices is better than abundant wealth that distracts.' Likewise, whenever the sun sets, two angels are sent on its both sides who announce to the inhabitants of the earth, except for jinn and mankind: 'O Allah! Grant reward to the one who spends, and destroy the wealth of the one who withholds.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Every day when the servants enter the morning, two angels descend. One of them says: O Allah! Grant a substitute to the one who spends, and the other says: O Allah! Destroy the wealth of the one who withholds."

Virtue of giving from every wealth

Sa’sa’ah bin Mu’awiyah says that I met Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Tell me a hadith. He said: Here you go, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Any Muslim servant who spends a pair from every wealth in the way of Allah, the gatekeepers of Paradise will welcome him and call him towards the blessings on their side.”I said: (A pair from every wealth), what does this mean? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“If he has camels, then two camels; and if he has cows, then two cows (and so on).”

Feeding the hungry
Numbering by, Al-Albani: 453, Fiqh-based: ,933
Sayyiduna ‘Abbad bin Shurahbil (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was afflicted by famine, so I entered one of the gardens of Madinah. I found an ear of grain and took some grains from it. I ate some grains and took some in my garment. Meanwhile, the owner of the garden came, he beat me and snatched my garment. I came (with my complaint) to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him the whole matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the owner of the garden):“He was ignorant, you did not teach him, and he was hungry, you did not feed him.”Then the Prophet ordered him, so he returned my garment to me and also gave me one or half a wasq of food.

Ruling on charity on Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha
Numbering by, Al-Albani: 2968, Fiqh-based: ,934
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would go out on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr and begin with the prayer. When he finished the prayer with salam, he would stand on his feet, turn towards the people, and the people would remain seated in their places before him. If he needed to send an army or had any other need, he would mention it to the people and command them to fulfill it. He would also say: "Give charity, give charity, give charity." Most of those who gave charity were women. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would depart.
