Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A long, white animal called Buraq was brought to me, (its swiftness was such that) it would place its hoof as far as its gaze could reach. I and Jibreel rode upon it until we reached Bayt al-Maqdis. The gates of the heavens were opened for us and I saw both Paradise and Hell." Hudhayfah bin Yaman said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not pray in Bayt al-Maqdis. But (the narrator in the chain) Zar said: I said to him: Why not, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did pray. Hudhayfah said: Bald one! What is your name? I recognize your face, but I do not know your name. I said: I am Zar bin Hubaysh. He said: How did you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed? I said: "The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is: «سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ» 'Glory be to Him Who took His servant by night from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We might show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.'" (17: Al-Isra: 1) He said: Do you find any mention of prayer in it? If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had prayed, you people would also pray there, just as you pray in Masjid al-Haram. Zar said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) tied his mount to the ring to which the other Prophets (peace be upon them) used to tie theirs. Hudhayfah asked: (Was the reason for tying it) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) feared it might run away, even though Allah, the Exalted, had brought it to him?

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Buraq was brought to me, it was a white, long animal, bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. It would place its hoof where its gaze would reach. I mounted it (and set off) until I reached Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). I tied it to the ring to which the other Prophets (peace be upon them) used to tie their animals. Then I entered the mosque and prayed two rak‘ahs. When I came out, Jibril (peace be upon him) brought a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk. Jibril said: You have chosen the natural disposition (fitrah). Then we were taken up towards the heaven. (When we reached there) Jibril asked for the door to be opened. It was said: Who is it? He said: Jibril. Then it was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It was said: Has he been called? He said: (Yes) he has been called. Then the door was opened for us. I saw Adam (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for me. Then we were taken up to the second heaven. Jibril (peace be upon him) asked for the door to be opened. It was asked: Who is it? He said: Jibril. The angels asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The angels said: Has he been called? Jibril said: (Yes! He has been called.) Then the door was opened for us. I saw the maternal cousins, ‘Isa bin Maryam and Yahya bin Zakariya (peace be upon them), both welcomed me and prayed for my goodness and well-being. Then we were taken up to the third heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened. The angels asked: Who? He said: Jibril. The angels asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It was said: Has he been called? Jibril (peace be upon him) said: Yes! He has been called. So the door was opened for us, there I saw Yusuf (peace be upon him), (from his beauty it was evident that) half of all beauty had been given to him. He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being. Then we were taken up to the fourth heaven, Jibril asked for the door to be opened. It was asked: Who? He said: Jibril. Then it was asked: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It was said: Has he been called? He said: Yes! He has been called, then the door was opened for us. There I saw Sayyiduna Idris (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for my goodness and well-being. Allah the Exalted said: And We raised him to a high station. Then we were taken up to the fifth heaven, and the request to open the door was made. It was said: Who? He said: I am Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It was asked: Has he been called? Jibril replied: Yes! He has been called, then the door was opened for us. There I saw Harun (peace be upon him), he welcomed me and prayed for my well-being. Then we were taken up to the sixth heaven and the request to open the door was made. It was said: Who? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then it was asked: Has he been called? He said: Yes! So the door was opened for us. There I saw Musa (peace be upon him). He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being. Then we were taken up to the seventh heaven and the request to open the door was made. It was asked: Who? He said: Jibril. It was said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). It was said: Has he been called? Jibril (peace be upon him) said: Yes! He has been called. So the door was opened. I saw Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He was reclining against the Bayt al-Ma‘mur. (The state of Bayt al-Ma‘mur is that) every day seventy thousand angels enter it and never return to it again. Then Jibril took me to Sidrat al-Muntaha, its leaves were like the ears of elephants and its fruits like large jars. When it was covered by the command of Allah the Exalted with something, (its state) changed in such a way that none among the creation of Allah can describe its beauty. Then Allah the Exalted revealed to me and made fifty prayers obligatory every day and night. I descended and came to Musa (peace be upon him), he asked: What has your Lord made obligatory upon your Ummah? I said: Fifty prayers. Musa (peace be upon him) said: Go back to your Lord and ask for a reduction, your Ummah will not be able to bear this, I have tested the Children of Israel and have experienced them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: So I returned to my Lord and said: O my Lord! Please reduce (the command of prayers) for my Ummah. So Allah the Exalted reduced five prayers. Then I returned to Musa (peace be upon him) and informed him that five prayers have been reduced for me, he said: Your Ummah will not be able to bear even this. So go back to your Lord and ask Him for (further) reduction. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I kept going back and forth between my Lord and Musa (peace be upon him), until Allah the Exalted said: O Muhammad! Five prayers are obligatory every day and night, each prayer is worth ten prayers in reward, (in this way) they are fifty prayers, and (listen further) whoever intends to do a good deed but does not do it, one good deed will be written for him, and if he does it, tenfold reward will be written for him, and whoever intends to do an evil deed but does not commit it, (no sin) will be written against him, and if he commits it, (even then) only one evil deed will be written for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I descended and reached Musa (peace be upon him) and informed him (of the whole situation). He again said: Return to your Lord and ask Him for further reduction. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I said, I have returned to my Lord (again and again). Now I feel shy before my Lord."

Musa (peace be upon him): Are you our father Adam?
Adam (peace be upon him): Yes.
Musa (peace be upon him): Are you the one into whom Allah Almighty breathed His spirit, taught all the names, and commanded the angels to prostrate to you?

Musa (peace be upon him): Yes.
Adam (peace be upon him): Do you blame me for a decision of Allah Almighty that had already preceded concerning me before I was created?"
After narrating this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Adam (peace be upon him) prevailed over Musa (peace be upon him), Adam (peace be upon him) prevailed over Musa (peace be upon him)."

The Covenant of Alast
Numbering by, Al-Albani: 1623, Fiqh-based: ,3810
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty took a covenant from Adam (peace be upon him) at the place of Nu'man, that is, at 'Arafah. (The practical form of this was that) Allah Almighty brought forth all of Adam's progeny from his back and spread them before Himself in the form of small ants. Then He spoke to them face to face and said: «أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَى شَهِدْنَا أَنْ تَقُولُوا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّا كُنَّا عَنْ هَـذَا غَافِلِينَ ﴿١٧٢﴾ أَوْ تَقُولُوا إِنَّمَا أَشْرَكَ آبَاؤُنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا ذُرِّيَّةً مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ أَفَتُهْلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ الْمُبْطِلُونَ» 'Am I not your Lord?' All said: 'Yes, indeed, we bear witness to this.' (This was) lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: 'We were unaware of this,' or lest you should say: 'Our forefathers had already committed shirk before us and we were their descendants (so we only followed them).' So, will You destroy us for the deeds of those who went astray?" (7-al-A'raf: 172, 173)
