Mukhtasar Sahih Bukhari
Jihad continues until the Day of Judgment under just or unjust rulers.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Urwah al-Bariqi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Goodness and blessing are tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection. (That is, either everlasting reward in the Hereafter or spoils of war in this world.)"
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is goodness and blessing in the forelocks of horses."
One who keeps a horse for jihad and Allah’s command: Prepare horses.
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever keeps a horse for fighting in the way of Allah, solely out of faith in Allah and believing in His promises, then surely its food, drink, dung, and urine—in short, everything related to it—will become reward for him and will be weighed in his scale of deeds on the Day of Resurrection."
Naming horses and donkeys.
Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) says that there was a horse of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) kept in our garden; its name was Laheef, and some say its name was Lakheef.
‘Sayyiduna Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a donkey, whose name was ‘Ufair. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“O Mu’adh! Do you know what Allah’s right is upon His servants?”... and the entire hadith was narrated which has already passed. (See the Book: Statement of Knowledge... Chapter: Disliking that people may not understand, for the one who leaves one group for another to teach them knowledge.)
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that (once) there was some fear in Madinah, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mounted our horse whose name was Mandub. He (peace be upon him) went out. When he returned, he said: "We did not see anything to be afraid of, and indeed we found this horse to be swift like a river."
Superstition about unlucky horses.
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Omen is only in three things: (1) the horse, (2) the woman, (3) the house."
Share of the horse in war booty.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) allotted two shares for the horse and one share for its rider (in the spoils of war).
If someone leads another’s mount in battle.
A person asked Sayyiduna Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did you people run away leaving the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Hunayn?" He replied, "(Yes), but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not run away. (The reason was that the tribe of) Hawazin (were) great archers. When we confronted them and attacked them, they fled. Then the Muslims turned towards the spoils of war, and the disbelievers started showering arrows (so we retreated), but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not run away. Indeed, I saw him riding his white mule, and Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) was holding its reins, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying, 'I am a Prophet, there is no lie in this. I am the son of Abdul Muttalib (the chief).' "
Description of the Prophet’s she-camel.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the she-camel of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), whose name was Adhba, no other she-camel could surpass her. Then a Bedouin youth came riding a camel and he surpassed her, which was very hard on the Muslims, until when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to know of it, he said: "It is Allah's right that whatever is elevated in the world, He will also bring it low."
