Narrated Sayyiduna Mujashi’ (may Allah be pleased with him): I brought my brother’s son to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said,“Please take the pledge of allegiance from him for migration.”The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,“Migration has ended for its people.”I asked,“Then on what will you take the pledge from us?”He replied,“On Islam and Jihad.”

Imam obligating only what people can bear.
`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said one day that today a person came to me and asked me a question. I did not understand what answer to give him. He said, tell me about a person who is heavily armed, perfectly healthy, he goes out in jihads with our leaders, then he gives us such commands in some matters that we cannot carry them out. I said to him, by Allah, I do not understand what answer to give you except that when we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he would command us in every matter only once until we would carry it out, and indeed every one of you will remain on goodness as long as he fears Allah, and when any doubt arises in his heart about something, he should ask someone, and he will satisfy him, and soon you will not find such a person (whose decision brings satisfaction). By the One besides whom there is no deity, as much of the world has passed (and as much remains), I say about it that the world is like a pond whose clear water has been drunk and only the muddy water remains.

Prophet delaying battle until after midday if not fought early.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on some occasions during jihad, in which there was confrontation with the enemy, delayed the battle. When the sun had declined, he stood up and delivered a sermon and said: "O people! Do not wish to meet the enemy and ask Allah for well-being. But when you do confront the enemy, then be patient and know well that Paradise is under the shade of swords." After this he said: "O Allah! Revealer of the Book (Qur'an), Mover of the clouds, and Defeater of the confederates! Defeat them and grant us victory over them."

One who joins jihad for wages.
Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I had hired a man, and he fought with another man. One of them bit the other's hand with his mouth. The other pulled his hand out of his mouth, and his front teeth fell out. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not award him compensation for the teeth and said: "Would he have left his hand in your mouth so that you could chew it, just as a camel chews greenery?"

Taking provisions for the journey in jihad and Allah’s command: Take provisions, the best is piety.
Lady Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I prepared food for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the house of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) when he intended to migrate to Madinah. She says: I could not find anything with which I could tie the food and the water container for him, so I said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): By Allah! I do not find anything except my waistband with which I can tie them. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Divide your waistband into two parts, tie the water container with one and the food with the other. So I did so, and for this reason I was named "the possessor of two waistbands" (Dhat an-Nitaqain).
