Shields and using a companion’s shield.
Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the wealth of Banu Nadir was of the type which Allah granted to His Messenger (peace be upon him) without battle. The Muslims had not made their horses or riders run upon it, meaning there was no occasion of war. So that wealth was taken especially by the Prophet (peace be upon him), and from it he would give his family their expenses for one year. After a year, whatever remained, he would spend it on weapons, horses, and for striving in the path of Allah.
Ameer-ul-Mu'mineen Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I did not see the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say for anyone except Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that his parents be sacrificed for him. (In the Battle of Uhud) I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Shoot, Sa'd! May my parents be sacrificed for you."
Decorating swords with gold and silver.
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "Indeed, all these conquests were achieved by those whose swords had neither gold nor silver work on them. Their swords had work of leather, lead, and iron."
Description of the Prophet’s armor and shirt worn in battle.
`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that on the day of Badr, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was inside a tent, he said: "O Allah! I beseech You by Your covenant and Your promise (to grant victory to the Muslims). O Allah! If You will, after today You will never be worshipped (on earth again)." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) took hold of his (the Prophet's) hand and said, "O Messenger of Allah! (This much supplication) is sufficient for you. Indeed, you have reached the limit in supplicating to your Lord." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was wearing armor at that time. Then he (peace be upon him) came out saying these words: "Soon this group will be defeated and they will turn their backs and flee. Rather, the Hour is their appointed time, and the Hour is more grievous and bitter." (Surah Al-Qamar 45, 46) And in another narration, it is mentioned that this incident took place on the day of Badr.
Wearing silk in battle.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) permitted Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) to wear silk shirts because they had itching on their bodies.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman and Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them) complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about lice, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) permitted them to wear silk garments.
What is said about the Roman war?
Narrated by Umm Haram (may Allah be pleased with her): She heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say: "The first people among my Ummah who will fight in the sea, Paradise will be obligatory for them." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Am I among them?" He (peace be upon him) said: "You are among them." Umm Haram (may Allah be pleased with her) says that then the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The first people among my Ummah who will fight in the city of Caesar (Constantinople), they will be forgiven." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Am I among those people?" He (peace be upon him) said: "No (you are not among them)."
Virtue of fighting the Jews.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "You will fight the Jews until a Jew will hide behind a stone, and the stone will say: O servant of Allah (Muslim)! There is a Jew hiding behind me. Kill him." In another narration, it is said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The Hour will not be established until you fight the Jews..." Then the rest of the hadith was narrated.
Description of fighting the Turks.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The Hour will not be established until you fight the Turks, whose eyes are small, faces are red, and noses are wide and flat. Their faces will be like shields covered with leather. And the Hour will not be established until you fight a people who wear shoes made of hair."
Cursing polytheists and praying for their defeat and earthquake.
Narrated Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) invoked against the polytheists on the day of the Battle of the Trench, saying: "O Allah! Revealer of the Book! Swift in reckoning! O Allah! Defeat these groups, shake their feet, scatter them (O Allah! Scatter them and destroy them, scatter them, make them stumble)."
