It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the chiefs of Quraysh once gathered in the Hatim and made a pact and covenant in the names of their false gods—Lat, Uzza, Manat, Na’ila, and Isaf—that if they saw Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), they would all stand together and would not part from him without killing him. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) heard this and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) weeping, saying,“The chiefs of Quraysh are making a pact concerning you that if they see you, they will advance and kill you, and each one of them is thirsty for your blood.”Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Daughter! Bring me some water for ablution.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and went to Masjid al-Haram. When those people saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they said,“Here he is,”but then, for some reason, they lowered their gazes, their chins dropped onto their chests, and they sat bewildered in their places. They could neither raise their eyes to look at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor could any of them stand up and move towards him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked towards them until he stood by their heads, took a handful of dust, and said,“May these faces be disfigured,”and threw that dust upon them. Whoever among them that dust fell upon was killed in a state of disbelief on the day of Badr.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one day he was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O boy! I am teaching you some words: Guard Allah (His commandments), Allah will guard you. Guard Allah, you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask from Allah. When you seek help, seek help from Allah. And know that if the whole world gathers together to benefit you, they cannot benefit you except with what Allah has written for you. And if they gather together to harm you, they cannot harm you except with what Allah has written for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."
