Shu’bah—who is the freed slave of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them)—says that when Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) performed ghusl for janabah, he would pour water from his right hand onto his left hand and wash it seven times before putting it into the vessel. Once, he forgot how many times he had poured water on his hand, so he began to ask me,“How many times did I pour water?”I replied,“I do not know.”He said,“May your mother be bereft of you! Why do you not know?”Then he performed the ablution for prayer, then poured water over his head and the rest of his body, and said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl in this manner.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Allah Almighty revealed this command: «﴿وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الْأَقْرَبِينَ﴾ [الشعراء: 214] » "Warn your close relatives," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one day climbed the hill of Safa and, according to the custom of that time, called out «يَا صَبَاحَاهُ» to gather the people. When the people of Quraysh had gathered, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Banu Abd al-Muttalib! O Banu Fihr! O Banu Lu'ayy! Tell me, if I inform you that an enemy is about to attack you in the morning or evening, will you believe me?" All said: Why not? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then I warn you of a severe punishment before it comes." Abu Lahab said: "Did you gather us for this? May you perish (God forbid)." Upon this, Surah Lahab was revealed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one day I was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O boy! Shall I not teach you some words by which Allah will benefit you?" I said: "Yes, indeed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Guard (the commandments of) Allah, Allah will guard you. Guard Allah, you will find Him before you. Remember Him in times of ease, He will remember you in times of hardship. When you ask, ask from Allah. When you seek help, seek help from Allah. And know that if the whole world gathers together to benefit you, they cannot benefit you except with what Allah has written for you. And if they gather together to harm you, they cannot harm you except with what Allah has written for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried. And remember! There is great good in being patient over hardships, for help comes with patience, relief comes with distress, and ease comes with hardship."
