Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith Number: 2999
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to review the Noble Qur'an with Jibreel Amin (peace be upon him) every year. In the year in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he reviewed it twice, and the final recitation was that of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when this blessed verse was revealed: «﴿وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا مَالَ الْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ﴾ [الإسراء: 34] » "Do not even go near the wealth of orphans except in the best manner," people separated the wealth of orphans from their own wealth, to the extent that food began to rot and meat started to smell. When this situation was mentioned before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), this verse was revealed to him: «﴿وَإِنْ تُخَالِطُوهُمْ فَإِخْوَانُكُمْ وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ الْمُفْسِدَ مِنَ الْمُصْلِحِ﴾ [البقرة: 220] » "If you mix them up with yourselves, they are your brothers, and Allah knows who intends reform and who intends corruption." Then they mixed their wealth with the wealth of the orphans.

He replied: "Allah had promised you one of the two groups, and He has already given it to you."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent the weak ones (women and children) from his family from Muzdalifah during the night, and he began to advise them: "Do not stone the Jamrah of Aqabah before sunrise."

Yazid bin Asam, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I presented myself in the service of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, and said: "So-and-so man got married, he invited us, and he presented thirteen lizards on the dining mat. It was evening time; some people ate from it and some abstained. His companions began to speak boastfully, until some people even said that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'I neither eat it nor declare it unlawful, nor do I command it nor prohibit it.'" Upon this, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "You have spoken incorrectly. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was sent only to clarify what is lawful and unlawful." Then he said: "In fact, a dining mat was presented to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on which there was bread and lizard meat. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, intended to eat from it, Sayyida Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: 'O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! This is lizard meat.' Upon hearing this, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, withdrew his hand and said: 'This is such meat that I do not eat, but you may eat.' Thus, Sayyiduna Fadl, Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid, may Allah be pleased with them both, and the woman present with them ate from it, and Sayyida Maymunah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: 'Whatever food the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, does not eat, I also do not eat.'"

Once, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about the meaning of this Quranic verse: «﴿فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ﴾ [المدثر: 8] » "When the Trumpet will be blown." He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How can I live a life of ease and comfort when the angel assigned to blow the Trumpet has already placed it in his mouth and has lowered his forehead, waiting to receive the command, so that as soon as he is ordered, he will blow it?" The noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "What supplication should we recite?" He replied: "Keep saying this: «حَسْبُنَا اللّٰهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ عَلَى اللّٰهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا» ."
