It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once a man set out on a journey, and two men started following him. Behind those two men, there was another man who was telling them to turn back. He kept telling them until both of them turned back. He said to the traveler, "These two were devils. I kept following them until I succeeded in sending them back. When you reach the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), convey my greetings to him and give him this message: We have collected some charity; if it is appropriate for him, we will send it to him." After this incident, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade traveling alone.

What is the reality of this fatwa that has become very famous among the people, that whoever performs Tawaf of the House of Allah becomes halal (permissible)? He replied: This is the Sunnah of your Prophet (peace be upon him), even if it is unpleasant to you.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a delegation of Jews came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Abul Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him)! We want to ask you a few questions which no one knows except a Prophet. Please answer them for us.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Ask me whatever you wish, but swear to me by Allah and by the covenant that Jacob (peace be upon him) took from his sons, that whatever answer I give you, if you find it correct, you will pledge allegiance to me upon Islam.”They said,“We promise you.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Now ask, what do you want to ask?”They said,“We ask you about four things: First, tell us what was the food that Jacob (peace be upon him) made unlawful for himself before the Torah was revealed? Second, tell us about the nature of the fluid of man and woman, and how is a male child born? Third, tell us about the state of sleep of this unlettered Prophet? And fourth, who is the angel who brings revelation to him?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Do you swear to me by Allah that if I answer these questions, you will follow me?”They made a very firm covenant with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“I ask you by the One Who revealed the Torah to Moses (peace be upon him), do you know that once Jacob (peace be upon him) became very ill, and when his illness prolonged, he vowed to Allah that if Allah granted him recovery from this illness, he would make his most beloved drink and most beloved food unlawful for himself? And among those foods, camel meat was the most beloved, and among drinks, camel milk was the most beloved?”They confirmed this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“O Allah! Bear witness.”Then he said,“I ask you by Allah, besides Whom there is no deity, and Who revealed the Torah to Moses (peace be upon him), do you know that the fluid of a man is white and thick, and the fluid of a woman is yellow and thin? Whichever of the two fluids prevails, by Allah’s command, the child resembles that one. So if the man’s fluid prevails over the woman’s, by Allah’s command, the child is a boy, and if the woman’s fluid prevails over the man’s, by Allah’s command, the child is a girl?”They also confirmed this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“O Allah! Bear witness.”Then he said,“I ask you by the One Who revealed the Torah to Moses (peace be upon him), do you know that the eyes of this unlettered Prophet sleep, but his heart does not sleep?”They said,“Yes!”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“O Allah! Bear witness.”The Jews then said,“Now tell us, who is the angel who is your friend? Upon this, we will either join you or separate from you.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“My friend is Jibreel (Gabriel), the Trustworthy, and whichever Prophet Allah sent, he was his friend.”Upon hearing this, the Jews said,“Now we cannot stay with you. If any other angel besides him had been your friend, we would have surely followed you and affirmed you.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“What prevents you from affirming me in the presence of Jibreel, the Trustworthy?”They said,“He is our enemy.”Upon this, the following verse was revealed: «﴿قُلْ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِجِبْرِيلَ . . . . . كَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴾ [البقرة: 97-101] » “Say: Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel . . . . . as they do not know.”And at that time, they returned carrying anger upon anger from Allah.

Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was present in the plain of Arafat in the service of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and at that time he was eating pomegranate. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also did not fast in the plain of Arafat. Sayyidah Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) had sent him milk, which he drank.

Musa bin Salamah, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I and Sinan bin Salamah set out for Hajj. Sinan had a she-camel, which became exhausted on the way, and he became helpless because of it. I thought that when I reach Makkah, I will definitely inquire about it. So when we reached Makkah, I said to Sinan, "Come, let us go to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both." We went there, and when we arrived, there was a girl sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. I had two matters to ask him, and my companion had one. He said, "I will go outside; you can speak in private?" I said, "There is nothing that needs to be asked in private." Then I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, "I had a she-camel that became exhausted on the way. I had thought in my heart that when I reach Makkah, I will definitely inquire about it." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "Once the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) sent some camels with a man and gave him the necessary instructions. When that man was about to leave, he turned back and said, 'O Messenger of Allah If any of these camels becomes exhausted, what should I do?' He said: 'Slaughter it, dye its hoof with its blood, and put it on its forehead. Neither eat it yourself nor let any of your companions eat it.'"

I asked the second question: "I participate in battles and receive a share of the spoils of war. If I free a slave or a slave-girl on behalf of my mother, will my freeing someone on her behalf suffice for her?" Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "The wife of Sinan bin Abdullah Juhani said to him, 'Ask the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) this question: My mother has passed away and she could not perform Hajj. Will my performing Hajj on her behalf suffice for her?' The Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) replied: 'If your mother had a debt and you paid it off, would it be considered paid or not?' She said, 'Yes!' He said: 'Then you should perform Hajj on behalf of your mother.'"

They also asked about the water of the sea, so he said: "The water of the sea is purifying."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your Lord is most Merciful. If a person intends to do a good deed and then does it, a reward of ten to seven hundred good deeds, or even more, is written for him. And if he does not do the good deed, then just for the intention, one good deed is written for him. And if a person intends to commit a sin and then commits it, only one sin is written against him. But if he does not commit the sin after intending it, then one good deed is written for him. And only that person can be destroyed regarding Allah who is destined to be destroyed."
