It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The first thing for which a servant will be called to account is his prayer. If he has performed it completely, it will be recorded as complete. Otherwise, Allah Almighty will say: Look! Does My servant have any voluntary prayers? So that the obligatory prayers may be completed through them. The same will be the case with zakat, and the reckoning of other deeds will also be in this manner.

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was present in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and addressing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Are you the Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Yes!" He asked, "What do you invite to?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I invite to Allah, Who is One. Tell me, who is that Being that when a calamity befalls you and you call upon Him, He removes your calamity? Who is He that when you are afflicted with drought and you supplicate to Him, He brings forth produce? Who is He that when you lose your way in a desert or wilderness and you supplicate to Him, He brings you back?" Hearing this, that person became Muslim and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Advise me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not abuse anything." He says that after that, I never abused even a camel or a goat since the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised me. "And do not show aversion to any good deed, even if it is meeting your brother with a cheerful face, pouring water from your bucket into the vessel of one who asks for water, and tying your lower garment up to half the shin; if you cannot do that, then up to the ankles, but avoid letting the lower garment hang down, for this is arrogance, and Allah does not like arrogance."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in the morning in a very pleasant mood, and cheerfulness was visible on his face. We mentioned this state to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: Why should it not be so? For last night my Lord came to me in a most beautiful form and said: O Muhammad. I replied: Here I am, my Lord, and all good is in Your hands. He said: Over what are the angels of the Highest Assembly disputing? I replied: My Lord! I do not know (this question and answer happened two or three times). Then my Lord placed His palms between my shoulders, and I felt their coolness in my chest and bosom, until all things of the heavens and the earth became manifest before me. Then he recited the verse: "And thus We showed Abraham..." After this, Allah again asked: O Muhammad, over what are the angels of the Highest Assembly disputing? I replied: About the expiations. He said: What are the expiations? I replied: Walking with one's feet to the Friday prayer, sitting in the mosque after the prayers, and completing ablution despite difficulty. It was said: Whoever does these deeds will live a good life, die a good death, and will be cleansed of his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him. And the things that raise ranks are: the best speech, spreading peace, feeding others, and praying at night when people are asleep. Then he said: O Muhammad! When you pray, make this supplication: O Allah! I ask You for pure things, to avoid evil deeds, to love the poor, and that You turn Your special attention to me. And when You intend to test the people, then grant me death before I am afflicted by tribulation.
