It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir that he says: Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the saying of Allah Almighty { وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ }, so he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In Paradise, a righteous person will be joined with a righteous person, and in Hell, an evil person will be joined with an evil person.

It is narrated from a man named Mikaeel, who says that when Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would stand for prayer at night, he would say: Indeed, You are seeing my place and You know my need. So, O Allah! Return me to my place successful and with my supplication accepted from Your presence. Indeed, You have forgiven me and had mercy on me. And when Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would finish his prayer, he would say: O Allah! I do not see any permanence in anything of this world, and I do not see any stability in any state of this world. O Allah! Make me one who speaks with knowledge in this world, and make me one who remains silent in this world by Your command. O Allah! Do not increase the world for me so much that I become rebellious, and do not decrease it for me so much that I become forgetful. Surely, a little of the world that suffices is better than an abundance that makes one heedless.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: When Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was attacked, I went to him and said: O Commander of the Faithful! Receive glad tidings of Paradise. When other people disbelieved, you (may Allah be pleased with you) accepted Islam. When others were disgracing the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), you (may Allah be pleased with you) strove in jihad alongside him (peace and blessings be upon him). And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in a state that he was pleased with you. And during your caliphate, not even two people have differed, and you are dying as a martyr. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Say this to me again. So I repeated it to him, and he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Him besides whom there is no deity, if I had gold and silver equal to what is on the earth, I would ransom myself with it from the terrors of the Day of Resurrection.
